World Down Syndrome Day programme held

Aligarh : The District Early Intervention Centre and Centre of Excellence (DEIC-COE) at JN Medical College and Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University organised a Parents Support Group Meeting and Fun Activity for Children with Down Syndrome in collaboration with the IAP-Aligarh Branch, in commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day.

In his welcome address Prof Uzma Firdaus, Nodal Officer, DEIC-COE highlighted various clinical features and management strategies for children with Down syndrome.

Dr Firdos Jahan and Dr Mohd Naushad led the Parents Support Group Meeting and the engaging colouring activity for the children, with assistance from staff nurses Ms. Shoobi and Ms. Saba, who concurrently educated parents on home-based early intervention strategies.

Prof S. Monazir Ali delivered a lecture, providing an overview of Down Syndrome Day and interacting with parents.

Prof. Kamran Afzal, Convener, DEIC-COE, RBSK J.N. Medical College & Hospital, AMU, Dr. Vikas Mehrotra, President, IAP-Aligarh Branch, Dr. R. Singh, Umang Hospital, Aligarh, Dr. Shariq Aqil, CMO Incharge, UHS, AMU and Prof. Shaad Abqari, Nodal Officer, PCE-CS Unit RBSK graced the occasion with their presence.

As a gesture of appreciation, all the participants and parents were provided with gifts and certificates. The ceremony was conducted by Dr. Navedur Rahman.

Prof. Kamran Afzal conveyed his gratitude to all, particularly the parents.

Mr. Mohd. Ahmad, Training Coordinator, ensured seamless execution of all arrangements.

The programme enabled the parents to gain valuable insights and support, regarding the needs and management of children with Down Syndrome at home, while engaging the children in fun-filled activities.
