West Bengal Board of Primary Education conducts the WBTET in order to determine the eligibility of candidates to teach in schools of West Bengal. WB TET means West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test and it is a state level exam is conducted as per National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE) guidelines.

WB TET exam is conducted in two sessions for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers comprise 150 multiple choice questions which candidates need to attempt in 2 hours 30 minutes duration. Paper 1 is to be given by candidates who want to teach Classes 1 to 5 and Paper 2 is for Upper Primary Teachers who want to teach Classes 6 to 8.

Candidates who qualify the WB TET exam get selected to fill vacancies of teaching posts in West Bengal. As per the reports, WB TET exam will be held on the second week of December.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the WB TET exams are held in two sessions. Both exams include 150 multiple choice questions that candidates must answer in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Candidates who wish to teach Classes 1 to 5 should take Paper 1, whereas Upper Primary Teachers who want to teach Classes 6 to 8 should take Paper 2.

WB TET Eligibility Criteria​


Age limit: Candidates must be at least 18 years old in order to fill out WB TET online application form. Candidates should not be older than 40 years old when they apply. The WBBPE organization will decide on age relaxation for SC/ ST and restricted categories based on its criteria.

Eligibility Criteria for Primary Teachers (Class I to V): The applicants must fulfil the following minimum eligibility conditions as prescribed by NCTE from time to time to be eligible to appear for the WB TET exam: Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent 10+2) with at least 50% marks and 2-year diploma in Elementary Education (DEIEd) Or

Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent 10+2) with at least 50% marks and 4 years Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEIEd) Or Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (or its equivalent 10+2) with at least 50% marks and having Diploma in Education (Special Education), recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) Or

Graduation and two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (DEIEd). Note: 5% relaxation of marks in Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination 10+2 (ie 45%) will be allowed for the SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PH, Exempted Category, ex-serviceman and DH (Death-in-harness) category candidates.

WBTET Eligibility Criteria for Upper Primary Teachers (Class VI to VIII): Candidates are eligible to appear for WB TET exam if they have: Cleared their BSc/BA or equivalent education, Cleared their BEd/Secondary education exam with minimum 50% marks
Qualified the final four years Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEIEd) and Appearing in final two years BSc/ BA/ Diploma in Education and clear the exam with at least 45% marks.

WB TET Exam Pattern​


The WB TET exam will be conducted in an offline format. There will be two papers. one for those applying for primary teaching positions (1 to category 5th) and another for those seeking Upper Primary teaching positions in grades 6 to 8. The question paper will be objective in nature. In WBTET, there is no provision for negative marking. Each question will be worth one mark.

How to apply for WB TET 2023?​


The West Bengal Board of Primary Education will release the WB TET Exam notification on its website. Candidates who wish to teach classes I-V and candidates who wish to teach class VI-VIII. They attend the paper 1 and paper 2 exam respectively. For this candidates need to submit the online application form at the official website.

  1. Visit the Website
    Candidates need to visit the official website of West Bengal Board of Primary Education, in your device web browser.

  2. Click on WB TET Tab
    Once you reach the official website of WBBPE, click on the WB TET tab on the home page. It will be redirected to a new website.

  3. Click on the Application Form
    After visiting the WB TET web portal, you can click on the WB TET online application link. Then, a new web application will be opened in your device.

  4. Fill the application form
    Once you reach the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields like name, address, contact details, educational details, etc.

  5. Upload the documents
    Attach the required document and upload a recent passport size photograph. Upload the required documents as per the prescribed format.

  6. Pay the Application Fee
    Pay the required fees by using the online payment method and click on the submit button.

  7. Download application form
    After successfully submitted the application form, download and take a printout, preserve it for future reference.

Process of WB TET: First Fill the WB TET Application Form: For this, candidates need to fill WBTET application form on the official website of the teacher eligibility test. After duly filling the application form of WB TET exam, aspirants need to save the confirmation page.

Download WB TET Admit Card: After completion of registration process, candidates need to download their WB TET admit card from the official website of WBBPE.

WBTET admit card contains the aspirant’s name, photograph, signature, roll number and test centre details. Candidates need to take a printout of the admit card and carry it to the exam centre on the day of examination.

Appear for WB TET Exam: On the exam day aspirants need to reach their test centre well in advance. WB TET exam comprises 150 multiple choice objective type questions which aspirants need to attempt in the allotted time duration of 2 hours 30 minutes.
