The Uttarakhand High Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed alleging that the contract carriage permit holders of the State are blatantly violating the permit conditions with regard to the carrying of luggage and passenger by them.

The petitioner has placed on record photographs to show that the contract carriage holders are carrying huge amounts of luggage on the carriers, apart from carrying passengers, who are also precariously positioned on the top of the vehicles.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal issued notice to the respondents.

Matter is listed on 25.04.2024.

In the meantime, the Bench directed the respondent authorities to ensure strict compliance of the permit conditions on which the contract carriage permits have been issued in the State.

Further the Court directed that the petitioner should implead at least some of the alleged violators of the contract carriage permit in their representative capacity as party respondents.
