The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tharali, District Chamoli, to conclude the inquiry and submit the inquiry report in Water Supply Schemes Case.

The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Pankaj Purohit, recently disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Gopal Chandra Vanwassi seeking directions to conclude an inquiry and submit a report regarding 88 water supply schemes in Tehsils Tharali and Deval of Chamoli District.

According to the petitioner, several irregularities and instances of bungling were committed in the construction of these schemes.

The District Magistrate, Chamoli, had ordered an inquiry into the matter vide order dated July 29, 2024.

However, despite directions to submit the enquiry report within one month, the enquiry committees had not submitted their reports.

The State Counsel assured the Court that the report would be submitted as soon as possible.

The Court, therefore, disposed of the writ petition with a direction to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tharali, District Chamoli, to conclude the inquiry and submit the enquiry report within eight weeks from the date of production of the certified copy of the order.

The Court also warned that failure to submit the enquiry report within the stipulated time would make the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate liable to disciplinary action, as per applicable rules.
