In a tribute to the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence, the University of Greenwich unveiled a powerful set of prints on Stephen Lawrence Day 2024. Designed by acclaimed graphic designer Florence Tasker, these artworks represent a blueprint for the future, three decades after the racist murder of Stephen Lawrence.

The prints were originally created for the immersive theatrical experience ‘The Architect’ produced by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival and Actors Touring Company in 2023. The production invited audiences on a transformative journey through time and space where audiences travelled aboard an iconic red bus and were transported across South-East London.

Conceived by Mojisola Adebayo, Roy Williams and Matthew Xia, and created by a collective of leading Black artists, including Bola Agbaje, Dexter Flanders, Vanessa Macauley and XANA, ‘The Architect’ challenged audiences to re-imagine a more equitable and inclusive society and asked how we create a blueprint for the future.

‘The Architect’ was produced by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival and Actors Touring Company in partnership with the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation with support from the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Royal Greenwich Festivals, Arts Council England and the University of Greenwich.

These poignant and powerful portraits of Stephen will be seen by the Greenwich community for many years to come serving as an important reminder of the ongoing journey toward a more hopeful and equitable future. We are proud to provide their permanent home in the Stephen Lawrence Building alongside ‘Mother and Child Reunion’, an original artwork created by Jennifer Lewis for the opening of the Stephen Lawrence Gallery in 2000.
