The government has suspended IPS officer N. Sanjay in connection with allegations of ‘misutilization of government funds.’ This marks the fourth suspension of an IPS officer in such cases since the TDP-led NDA government assumed office in Andhra Pradesh. Notably, the IPS officer was serving as the Director General of AP State Disaster Response and Fire Services.

Who is IPS N Sanjay?

Sanjay is the 1996 batch officer IPS officer and was heading the chief of the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID). He held the position during Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest in the skill development case’ in 2023. YSR Congress Party was in power at that time.

Sanjay, who hails from Visakhapatnam, boasts a qualification from Andhra University. The guiding figure of his dad inspired him on the path of preparing for the UPSC civil services exam. Before, he served as the commanding boss at the AP Police Housing Corporation Limited. His vocational journey encompasses diverse roles over the entirety of the undivided region of Andhra Pradesh, aiding areas like Warangal, Nalgonda, Kurnool, Ananthapur, Nizamabad, and Hyderabad.

Why IPS Officer N Sanjay Was Suspended?

On Tuesday, a government announcement was made public; within its confines lay the unsettling details stumbled upon by the Vigilance and Enforcement Department. Reports tell us that a department official associated with the 1996 batch had been recklessly buying laptops and iPads, having even made payments for these last year. This hasty behaviour translates to a case of funds misused, chalked up to excessive use of power and thus breaking the established trust of the public.

In simple terms, Sanjay is under scrutiny for his actions in government—a Government Order (GO) has pointed a finger at him. Allegedly, he gave out orders for SC/ST awareness workshops early this year while ignoring the required protocols. And, that’s not all. Allegedly, he was in cahoots with a particular firm, making hefty payments that climbed over Rs 1.15 crore, a serious oversight if true.
