The government’s decision to give Bengali and Marathi the status of a classical language welcomed

ALIGARH : Professor T.N. Satheesan, Chairman, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University has welcomed the decision of the Government of India to give the status of classical languages to Bengali, Marathi, Pali, Prakrit and Assamese.

He congratulated the Linguistic Expert Committee of the Sahitya Akademi for their recommendation. He emphasised that this decision will enhance the opportunities of academic studies and research in these languages and contribute to their promotion and preservation.

He said this expansion will enhance the department’s academic stature and broaden the understanding of India’s rich linguistic and literary heritage.
