The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has signed an MoU with the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25 . Its objective is to enhance the empowerment and socio-economic upliftment of sanitation workers, manual scavengers, waste pickers and their dependents across the country. It aims to accelerate inclusive growth through effective allocation and utilization of funds for welfare programs for sanitation workers across the country.

3 Warship ‘Mahendragiri’ being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited will be commissioned on Friday​

The warship ‘ Mahendragiri ‘ , being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai , will be launched on Friday. It is the seventh warship of the Indian Navy under Project 17-A . Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, wife of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, will commission the warship. The Vice President will be the chief guest at the function. The newly-christened Mahendragiri is a technologically advanced warship that stands as a symbol of India’s determination to embrace its rich naval heritage. Mahendragiri, the name of the ship, is a mountain peak in the Eastern Ghats in Orissa . Named after. It is the seventh ship of the 17A frigate. These warships are a successor to the Project 17 class frigates (Shivalik class), which have improved stealth features, advanced weapons and sensors and platform management systems. A total of four ships are under construction by M/s MDL and three ships by M/s GRSE under the Project 17A programme. The first six ships of the project have so far been launched by MDL and GRSE between 2019-2023.

5 India, Asian Development Bank to set up climate change and health center in Delhi​

In Kolkata Metro Railway, power to the metro rakes is supplied to the rolling stock at 750V DC through steel third rail. The third rail current collector (TRCC) made of steel installed on the metro rake collects electric current from the third rail. Kolkata Metro Railway has been using steel third rail for the last 40 years. Kolkata Metro Railway is now using composite aluminum third rail in all upcoming corridors being constructed along with retro fitment in existing corridors with steel third rail. have decided to do. With this state-of-the-art transformation, Kolkata Metro Railway will now be equipped with modern facilities at par with London, Moscow, Berlin, Munich and Istanbul Metro and will join as a member of their club. In these places also the metro has changed from steel third rail to aluminum third rail. There will be reduced resistive electric current losses and better traction voltage levels as the resistance of steel third rail is approximately six times higher than that of composite aluminum third rail.

7 India-Kenya Agreement​

11 SBI launches Aadhaar-based enrollment for social security schemes​

State Bank of India (SBI) has launched a new feature under which its customers can enroll for various social security schemes using only Aadhaar card. Aadhaar will be sufficient for State Bank of India customers to enroll in social security schemes, such as PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana. Earlier, many other documents including Aadhaar, bank passbook were required for this. SBI has started this service for its customers.

12 Title sponsor for home international matches IDFC First Bank​

BCCI has signed a deal with the new title sponsor for domestic international matches. IDFC First Bank has signed a deal to pay Rs 4.2 crore for each match. Apart from IDFC First Bank, only Sony Sports was in the race to be the BCCI title sponsor. Due to only two companies participating in the bidding process, BCCI had reduced the base price to Rs 2.4 crore. After taking over the rights from PayTM, MasterCard had paid Rs 3.8 crore per match. The contract between BCCI and IDFC First Bank will be for three years from September 1. The agreement will cover 56 international matches in India.

13 FIFA lifts ban on Sri Lanka Football Federation​

World governing body FIFA has lifted the ban on the Sri Lankan Football Federation (FFSL) . The ban was imposed in January 2023 due to government interference in the affairs of the federation. In a letter dated 28 August, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said that the FIFA Bureau has decided to lift the suspension of FFSL with immediate effect on 27 August. FFSL has also agreed to hold fresh elections for its executive committee.

18 Indian English poet Jayant Mahapatra passes away​

Jayant Mohapatra, one of India’s most renowned English poets, passed away at the age of 95. The great poet has left a mark in Indian English poetry with his writings spanning over 50 years. He was born on 22 October 1928 in Cuttack, Odisha , India. He studied at the Ravenshaw College in Cuttack and the University of Delhi. After graduation, he worked as a teacher and journalist. Mr Mohapatra, a physics teacher, fell in love with English poetry in his late 30s. After the publication of his first collection ‘ Swayamvara and Other Poems ‘ in 1971, he never looked back. His poems ‘ Close the Sky Ten by Ten‘ catapulted him into the top league of writers. In 1981, Jayant Mahapatra won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry book “ Relationships ”. He was the first to receive the Sahitya Akademi Award in the English language. Became the author to winHe was also awarded the Jacob Glatstein Memorial Prize, awarded by Chicago’s Poetry Magazine. He was also awarded the Alan Tate Poetry Prize for 2009 from The Sewanee Review. He received the SAARC Literary Award, New Delhi, 2009. He has also received the Tata Literature Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009 he was awarded the Padma Shri and on 2 May 2009 he was also awarded an honorary doctorate, dedicated to him by Ravenshaw University. He was also awarded the D.Litt degree by Utkal University, Odisha in 2006. In May 2019 he became the first Indian English poet to be made a Fellow of the Sahitya Akademi.
