The validity of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) and other state Teacher Eligibility Tests (TETs) has been extended from seven years to Life Time.

The decision was taken by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) during the 50th Meeting of the General Body of NCTE held on September 29, 2024.

The Central Government has made a key announcement on the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has announced that the deadline for TET eligibility certificate will be extended from seven years to life.

He clarified that this has been applicable since 2011. He suggested that states should take steps to issue fresh TET certificates to candidates who have already completed seven years.

The minister said the decision was taken by the central government with the aim of creating more jobs in the teaching profession.

The National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE) issued directives in 2011 forcing TET to join schools as teachers. To date, state governments have been conducting TET examinations.

While the TET certificate is currently valid for seven years, it has recently been decided to extend the validity of the TET certificate for lifetime.
