The International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 batsmen rankings were released. In this, India’s Suryakumar Yadav remains in second place , while Yashasvi Jaiswal remained in sixth place. Rituraj Gaikwad has slipped one place to eighth in the batsmen’s rankings . After winning the recent T20 series against Zimbabwe by four to one, Indian players have made significant progress in the recent rankings. Australia ‘s Travis Head is at the top with 844 points . In the men’s T20 all-rounder rankings, India’s Hardik Pandya is the only player to have got a place in the top ten. Hardik Pandya has got the sixth position. 2 The number of judges in the Supreme Court has reached 34​

On July 18, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud administered the oath of judgeship to Justice N. Kotishwar Singh and Justice R. Mahadevan . With this , the number of judges in the Supreme Court has become 34. Justice N. Kotishwar Singh is the first judge from Manipur to be appointed to the Supreme Court. He was working as the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. Justice Singh was born on 1 March 1963 in Imphal, Manipur. In 2008, he was designated as a senior advocate by the Guwahati High Court. In 2018, Justice Singh was made the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court. Justice R. Mahadevan was earlier working as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. In 2013, Mahadevan was appointed as a Justice of the Madras High Court.

3 Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar inaugurated India’s first overseas Jan Aushadhi Center in Mauritius​

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar inaugurated India’s first Jan Aushadhi Kendra located abroad in Mauritius . Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jagannath was also present with him on the occasion. In a post on social media, Dr. Jaishankar said that the establishment of this medicine center was promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year, which has now been fulfilled. He also said that under the India-Mauritius Health Partnership Project, affordable medicines manufactured in India will be supplied to promote public health and well-being of the people. Earlier, External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar also inaugurated the Mediclinic project built with India’s financial assistance in the Grand Boa region of Mauritius. of Mauritius and termed it as the latest expression of mutual friendship. On this occasion, Dr. Jaishankar said that with the opening of the Mediclinic, 16 thousand people in the Grand Boa region will get specialized treatment services. Feeling proud of this, the Foreign Minister said that health is a priority area for all of us and we have all become aware of it.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the National Narcotics HelplineMANAS1933. Through the ‘MANAS’ ( Narcotics Control Intelligence Centre ) helpline, citizens can share information on drug trafficking and connect with the Narcotics Control Bureau 24X7 to seek advice on de-addiction and rehabilitation. Along with this, Shri Amit Shah also released the NCB ‘s ‘ Annual Report 2023 ‘ and Compendium on ‘ Nasha Mukt Bharat ‘. The Home Minister chaired the 7th high-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre in New Delhi.

Comptroller and Auditor General Girish Chandra Murmu inaugurated the International Centre for Audit of Local Governance (iCAL) in Rajkot, Gujarat . Addressing reporters on the occasion, Mr Murmu emphasised on transparency and accountability in local self-governance and capacity building of local government auditors. He expressed confidence that the centre would work as a think tank for issues at the grassroots level. He said the centre would serve as a platform for sharing information and play a key role in strengthening local self-institutions.

6 Self-reliant India: Two of the five largest coal mines in the world are located in India​

In the list of the world’s 10 largest coal mines released by WorldAtlas.com, Gevra and Kusmunda coal mines of Chhattisgarh -based Coal India subsidiary South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) have been ranked second and fourth respectively. . Both these mines located in Korba district of Chhattisgarh state produce more than 100 million tonnes of coal per annum, which is about 10 percent of India’s total coal production. The annual production capacity of Gevra opencast mine is 70 million tonnes. It produced 59 million tonnes of coal in the financial year 2023-24. This mine started functioning in the year 1981. Today it has sufficient coal reserves to meet the country’s energy needs for the next 10 years. Kusmunda opencast mine produced more than 50 million tonnes of coal in the financial year 2023-24, which is the second mine in India to achieve such an important feat after Gevra.

7 NFDC and Netflix partner to launch “The Voicebox” – a skill upgradation program for voice-over artists in India​

National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) , a public sector enterprise under the aegis of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has joined hands with Netflix India to launch “ The Voicebox ” , a skill upgradation programme for voice-over artists in India . The Voicebox programme will provide Recognition of Prior Learning Training (RPL) for voice-over artists, focusing on English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Gujarati languages. As part of the programme, structured workshops, which will include training (featuring guest lectures and mentoring sessions), followed by assessments will be conducted across seven major cities in India – New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kochi. Each batch will consist of 30 candidates, with 210 participants selected through preliminary screening. At least 50 per cent of the participants will be women. Pearl Academy, India’s leading design institute, will be on board as the training partner for the programme. Seven top participants from each batch will be selected to contribute to Netflix’s special project, “Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyaan”, where they will lend their voices to narrate stories depicting the Indian freedom movement.

9 Indian naval warship INS Teg rescues nine people from oil tanker that sank off the coast of Oman​

Indian naval warship INS Teg has rescued nine crew members, including eight Indians, from an oil tanker that sank off the coast of Oman . The Comoros-flagged oil tanker MV Prestige Falcon had 16 crew members on board, including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans. The search for the remaining people is underway. Indian naval warships and a P-8I maritime patrol aircraft have been dispatched for search and rescue efforts after the tanker capsized. The tanker capsized about 25 nautical miles south east of Ras Madrakah. The Indian Embassy said it is in constant touch with Omani authorities. Search and rescue operations are being conducted in the area by Oman’s Maritime Security Centre and the Indian Navy.

10 Deepa Malik appointed South Asia representative of APC​

On July 17, the executive meeting of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) was held. In this, India’s Paralympic player Deepa Malik was appointed as the representative for South Asia . Deepa is also the former president of the Indian Paralympic Committee . After Deepa’s appointment, the number of women representatives in the executive board has increased to five. She will represent South Asian countries in Para Games. Deepa will be responsible for the development and promotion of Para Games in this area. Deepa is a para player of swimming and motor wrestling along with shotput and javelin throw. She has won 33 gold and 4 silver medals in India’s national competitions. She is the first woman from India who was invited to the Himalaya Car Rally. The Government of India honored Deepa with Arjun Award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. Deepa Malik was born on 30 September 1970 in Sonipat, Haryana.

Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Dr. L. Murugan and Secretary I&B Shri Sanjay Jaju were also present on the occasion. The book Wings to Our Hopes compiles speeches delivered by President Draupadi Murmu on various occasions during the first year of her tenure. “Rashtrapati Bhavan: Heritage Meets the Present” is an in-depth exploration of Rashtrapati Bhavan, describing its history, heritage and architectural grandeur. The book gives readers an intimate glimpse into the grandeur of Rashtrapati Bhavan, right from its conception to its current status as the official residence of the President of India. The book ‘Kahani Rashtrapati Bhavan Ki’ contains information on the President and Rashtrapati Bhavan for children. Divided into three chapters – ‘Our President’, ‘Main Attractions of Rashtrapati Bhavan’ and ‘Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum Complex’, the book presents in simple terms the history of nearly a hundred years of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

13 Fencer Shreya Gupta won bronze medal at Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Championships 2024 competition​

Jammu and Kashmir ‘s famous fencer Shreya Gupta has won her first individual international medal by winning a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Championship 2024 competition going on in Christchurch , New Zealand . Shreya performed brilliantly and defeated England’s Sonder Nicole 15-3 in the 16-point table. At the same time, in the medal match, she defeated Australian fencer Harj Gala 15-13. In the semi-finals, Shreya had to face defeat 15-11 against Juliet Mind of Singapore. Shreya has earlier won two bronze medals in the Commonwealth Cadet and Junior Fencing Championships held in New Castle and London in 2018 and 2022. Apart from this, she won a bronze medal at the junior level in the team competition of the Asian Championship in Uzbekistan. She has participated in 15 prestigious international fencing competitions. She has been awarded the Outstanding Player and Khelo India Award under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
