On June 11th, the Supreme Court, addressing a petition seeking the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exams due to an alleged paper leak, expressed concerns about the compromised integrity of the exams and demanded answers. The court, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA), for a response, but declined to halt the counselling process for NEET UG 2024.

Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara urged the court to stay the counselling, but Justice Nath asserted that the process should continue. Justice Amanullah emphasized the need for clarity, stating that the sanctity of the exams had been compromised.

The court scheduled further hearings for July 8, indicating that the counselling might be halted if more time is needed to gather responses. Advocate J Sai Deepak, addressing the Supreme Court’s notice to the NTA, highlighted multiple petitions filed before the declaration of the result, alleging a paper leak.

Advocate J Sai Deepak, representing Alakh Pandey, CEO of the educational platform Physics Wallah, noted their petition’s focus on the arbitrary awarding of grace marks. He mentioned that signatures from about 20,000 students indicated that around 1,500 students had received 70 to 80 marks in grace randomly. The court will consider this petition along with others but has clarified that it will not stay the counselling process at this stage.
