The Supreme Court has a issued notice in a contempt of court petition plea filed by activist Shachi Nelli against Yati Narsinghanand for allegedly derogatory remarks made by him against the top court.

A bench of Justice AS Bopanna and Justice MM Sundresh issued the notice.

Narsinghanand is stated to have said that those who believe in this system, these politicians, in the Supreme Court, and in the Army will all die the death of a dog.

The Apex Court in October 2022 had sought the production of the transcripts of statements in question made by the Danna Devi temple priest.

In January 2022, former Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal had granted consent to Nelli for the initiation of criminal contempt of court proceedings against Narsinghanand.

AG Venugopal found that the remarks by Narsinghanand were a direct attempt to lower the authority of the Supreme Court in the minds of the general public.

As per Section 15 of the Contempt of Courts Act, the consent of Attorney General is required before the Supreme Court can hear a criminal contempt of court petition filed by a private individual.

In her letter, Nelli also submitted that in an interview given by Narsinghanand, which went viral on the social media platform Twitter, he had made his contempt for the Supreme Court and the Constitution of India clear by also saying, we have no trust in the Supreme Court of India and the Constitution. The Constitution will consume the 100 crore Hindus of this country. Those who believe in this Constitution will be killed.”

Narsinghanand’s statements were made in response to questions posed about the proceedings in the Haridwar Hate Speech cases.
