The Supreme Court has disposed of a petition filed by the government of Bihar, which challenged the stay on Caste-based Census in view of the May 4 Patna High Court order that reserved its verdict on the same.

The Bench of Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra passed the orders on a petition filed by the government of Bihar against the High Court’s interim order.

A Division Bench of the Patna High Court had passed the interim orders, while determining whether the state government was competent to conduct the survey.

The Apex Court disposed of the petition after the counsel appearing for both sides agreed that the matter had become infructuous since the High Court had already reserved its verdict.
