Supreme Court directs Union Government for filling vacancy in 6th National commission for scheduled castes soon

The Supreme Court has asked the Union of India for filing a pending vacancy in the National Commission for Scheduled Caste.

The court gave these directions,in a plea which had sought for vacancies to be filled in the Commission in 2017.

The matter was listed before a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice JB Pardiwala.

The court found that the vacancies that existed in the earlier commission had already been filled,but the 6th National Commission for Scheduled Castes has vacancies.

The bench was informed by the Union of India that the vacancies for Chairperson, Vice chairperson, and two members of the Commission had already been filled and there was only one vacancy that still existed.

The CJI Chandrachud, while dictating the order, said orally that the Union of India in an affidavit stated that the Chairperson, Vice chairperson, and two members are already in place but one vacancy still exists. Union of India to ensure that it the vacancy is filled expeditiously.
