The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice T Raja to the Rajasthan High Court.

The Collegium had earlier recommended that Justice Raja be transferred to the Rajasthan High Court on November 16 last year.

A week later, it had rejected the judge’s request for reconsideration of the proposed transfer.

Although the Union government is yet to clarify its stand on transfer of Justice Raja to Rajasthan, the Collegium in its resolution made public on Wednesday, insisted that his recommendation for transfer be implemented.

The Collegium has also stated that the pending decision on Justice Raja’s transfer should not come in the way of the appointment of Bombay High Court judge, Justice SV Gangapurwala as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court that has remained without a permanent Chief Justice for six months now.

Justice Raja will attain superannuation on May 24 this year.
