As a part of countrywide ‘Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav, NSS-NIT Rourkela, in association with Odisha Blood Centre (RGH, Rourkela) organised a Blood Donation Camp today, at V S Hall, NIT Rourkela campus, to mark ‘World Blood Donor Day 2023′. The day is celebrated annually on June 14th to honour the selfless individuals who donate their blood to save lives around the world. This year’s theme, “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”, resonated deeply with the students, inspiring them to contribute to this noble cause.

Prof. Rohan Dhinam (Regisrar, NITR) inaugurated the event and said, “Donating Blood is a global need, and I am immensely proud of our students’ dedication. By donating, they are directly impacting the lives of others and raising awareness in their peers and families to join this worthy cause. This day serves as a reminder that blood donation is essential for individuals battling life-threatening conditions, women facing childbirth complications, patients undergoing complex medical procedures, victims of accidents and emergencies and many other unfortunate happenings. This act of kindness can transform lives, restore hope, and inspire others to participate in this ‘Spirit of Giving’ for a healthier world. I take pride in saying that NIT Rourkela students contribute to this global movement.”

More than 50 students, faculties and staff of NIT Rourkela participated in this humanitarian cause and donated blood. Prof. Santosh Kumar Sahoo (Prof. In charge of the NSS-NIT Rourkela team) thanked all the blood donors and officials of Rourkela Government Hospital. Prof. Subhankar Paul (Head of the Department, Extra Academic Activity) joined the event and encouraged everyone to pledge to donate. Around 100 people signed the ‘Blood Donation Pledge’, promising to serve society whenever in need of blood. The donation drive concluded adhering to all safety measures and protocols under the guidance of Dr Champak Bhatacharyya (Head, Health Center, NIT Rourkela).
