SSC CHSL examination​


The SSC CHSL examination is conducted in three phases or tiers every year. The exam will also follow the same pattern. The first Tier comprises a computer-based examination, while Tier II is a descriptive paper. The third and final phase of the recruitment test is skillset/typing.

A candidate is required to have at least cleared and received a certificate for class 12 or any other equivalent exam to be eligible for the SSC CHSL test. The minimum age of candidates applying for the posts should be 18. Candidates seeking a job via the exam can be 27 years at maximum. However, there is a provision for age relaxation for reserved category students.

The application fee for applying to the SSC CHSL is Rs 100. However, contenders belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and Ex-servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation, as well as women candidates, can apply free of cost.

SSC CHSL would be based on a Computer Based Test (CBT) format and will be conducted in various test centres across the country. Candidates who qualify SSC CHSL tier 1 examination would be eligible for Tier-2 exam. Various skills of candidates are checked through different levels of CHSL exams.

SSC CHSL Salary​

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Pay Level-2 (Rs. 19,900-63,200).
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO): Pay Level-4 (Rs. 25,500-81,100) and Level-5 (Rs. 29,200-92,300).
  • Data Entry Operator, Grade ‘A’: Pay Level-4 (Rs. 25,500-81,100).

Qualification​

  • Intermediate, Maths & science stream subject in inter for the data entry operator in CAG.
  • For LDC/ JSA, PA/ SA, DEO (except DEOs in C&AG): Candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
  • For Data Entry Operator (DEO Grade ‘A’) in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.
  • Age Limit: Must be between 18-27 years as of January 1.
  • Selection Process: Based on Computer Based Test (Tier-1), Descriptive Test (Tier-2), Skill / Typing Test (Tier-3).

Exam pattern for Tier 1​

  • The exam will comprise of four sections- English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness.
  • Each section will have 25 questions carrying a total of 50 marks. The exam will be of 60 minutes.
  • The questions will be objective in nature. 0.5 marks will be deducted for each wrong answers.
  • Tier 2 paper will be a descriptive Paper of 100 Marks in ‘Pen and Paper’ Mode. The duration of the Descriptive Paper will be for one hour. The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33 per cent

Application Fee: Rs.100/- for application fee. Fee exemption for women, SC, ST and PWD Candidates. Necessary Documents Required: Candidates are required to upload their scanned image and signature while registering for the examination. The required documents like matriculation certificate, caste certificate and other documents would be required only at the time of document verification.

General Intelligence: Both Verbal and Non Verbal questions come up. These are asked from sections such as number analysis, number classification, figure analysis, Venn diagrams, number series, coding decoding, word building … More questions come over numbers and digits. Quantitative aptitude: questions in number system, algebra, geometry, mensuration and trigonometry. Almost all of these are from high school math books. It is best to study them and practice as many sample questions as possible.

Three stages in SSC CHSL Exam:​

For better marks: Write as many mock tests as possible before the test. The time rule must be strictly followed when writing this. Additional time should be allocated for reviewing the answers and preparing the backward sections.

Find the answer to a hundred questions in sixty minutes in Tier-1. That means each question has only 36 seconds of time. This period is not sufficient for various questions in Quantitative Aptitude and General Intelligence.

Since the time is not fixed by sections, the English and General Awareness sections should be completed in a short period of time and the remaining period should be spent on questions on Quantum and Intelligence.

It is possible to complete the test in a short period of time by practicing as many sample questions as possible. Some questions may take longer to answer.
