[Soumya Vishwanathan Murder Case] Supreme Court seeks reply of four convicts on Delhi Police’s plea

Supreme Court: The division bench of Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma, JJ. has issued notice in an appeal filed by the Delhi police against the Judgment passed by the Delhi High Court, wherein the Court suspended the life sentence and granted interim bail to four men convicted for murdering journalist Soumya Vishwanathan in 2008.

In 2008, Soumya Vishwanathan was found dead in her car in Vasant Kunj. As per the forensic reports she died due to a bullet wound in her head. In 2023, four men were convicted in for committing her murder, and were also found guilty under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act and sentenced to undergo life imprisonment by the Trial Court. This conviction was challenged by them before the Delhi High Court. The High Court suspended the life sentence and granted interim bail to all four men as they had already been in prison for 14 years. Aggrieved, Soumya Vishwanathan’s mother challenged the same before the Supreme Court.
