Sindhu Central University, Ladakh will launch from August 2023 with three postgraduate or master’s programmes – MTech in energy technology and policy, MTech in atmospheric and climate sciences and MA in public policy.

The ministry of education organised the first meeting of the executive committee of Sindhu Central University in New Delhi today. Directors of the two Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) mentoring the new central university led the meeting. In a social media post, the education ministry informed that the meeting was co-chaired by Abhay Karandikar, director, IIT Kanpur and V Kamakoti, director, IIT Madras. The post said: “The universitywill offer masters in technology in energy technology and policy, masters in technology in atmospheric and climate sciences and masters in public policy.” According to reports, Sindhu Central University’s first foundation was laid in August 2021 on the occasion of the second anniversary of the formation of the union territory of Ladakh, through an in lok sabha. Further, in July 2022, a cost of Rs 750 crore was approved for the university by the union cabinet for the functioning for the next seven years.According to a lok sabha reply by the central government in parliament in August 2022, Sindhu Central University in Ladakh and the University of Ladakh will function “ “, complementing each other.
