India’s aggressive opener Shefali Verma became the fastest player to score a double century in the history of women’s Test cricket, surpassing Australia ‘s Annabel Sutherland during the only Test against South Africa . Twenty-year-old Shefali surpassed Sutherland by completing her double century in just 194 balls. The Australian player had scored a double century in 248 balls against South Africa earlier this year. Shefali also became the second Indian to score a double century in Test cricket after a long gap of almost 22 years, after former India captain Mithali Raj. Mithali scored 214 runs in 407 balls during the drawn second Test against England in Taunton in August 2002.

2 General Upendra Dwivedi took over as Army Chief​

General Upendra Dwivedi , PVSM, AVSM took over as the 30th Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) from General Manoj Pandey , PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, who retires on 30 June 2024 after serving the nation for over four decades. General Upendra Dwivedi is an accomplished military leader with over 40 years of service in the Armed Forces. General Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa ( Madhya Pradesh ). He was commissioned into the Regiment of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in 1984.

Hul Day was celebrated in Jharkhand to commemorate the sacrifice of tribal leaders Sidhu-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav and Phool-Jhano . Governor CP Radhakrishnan , Chief Minister Champai Soren and other dignitaries paid tribute to the tribal freedom fighters and remembered their contribution. On this occasion, the main program was organized at Bhognadih in Sahibganj , the birthplace of martyr Sidhu-Kanhu and other fighters. Hul Kranti Day is celebrated every year on June 30 to commemorate the freedom movement of the year 1855 led by tribal heroes Sidhu, Kanho, Chand, Bhairav . More than 50,000 tribals from 400 villages of Jharkhand revolted against British rule . More than 20,000 people sacrificed their lives in this heroic event of India’s long struggle for independence.

4 Group of tribal artisans making ‘Karthumbi umbrellas’​

Thambu Vanavasi Kutayama , a group of tribal artisans making ‘ Karthumbhi Umbrellas ‘, is excited about the mention of their product in the Mann Ki Baat programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi . About 750 women from various tribal villages of Attappady in Palakkad district of Kerala were trained in making umbrellas. After this, colorful umbrellas of ‘ Karthumbhi ‘ brand have become a source of income for tribal women. Now these umbrellas have started becoming available in the open market and online mediums. The tribal group hopes that after the mention of these umbrellas in the Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat programme, their demand will increase further. The head of this group, K.A. Raju has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister in this regard.

5 India’s Largest Leopard Safari​

Recently India’s largest leopard safari was inaugurated at Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) in Bengaluru , Karnataka . The leopard safari at BBP is spread over an area of 20 hectares . It has a rugged terrain with naturally occurring rock formations and partly deciduous forests and is currently home to 8 leopards. Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) was separated from Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) in the year 2004 and received the status of a national park in the year 1974. It is home to freely roaming leopards (Panthera pardus). It has four sections: zoo, safari, butterfly park and rescue center. The park boundaries also include the valley of Champakadham Hills.

6 RBI announces SAARC Currency Swap Framework for 2024-27​

The Reserve Bank of India, in concurrence with the Government of India, has decided to put in place a revised framework on currency swap arrangements for SAARC countries from 2024 to 2027. Under this framework, the Reserve Bank will enter into bilateral swap agreements with SAARC central banks that wish to avail the swap facility. Under the framework for 2024-27, a separate INR swap window has been incorporated with various facilities for swap support in Indian Rupees. The total corpus of INR support is ₹250 billion. The Reserve Bank will continue to provide swap arrangements in US$ and Euro under a separate US Dollar/ Euro swap window with a total corpus of US$ 2 billion. The currency swap facility will be available to all SAARC member countries, subject to the conclusion of their bilateral swap agreements.

7 Central Railway installed floating solar plant for the first time​

Central Railway has installed a floating solar plant for the first time . Railways has taken this step under Green Earth . The Government of India is taking several steps to promote green energy. Now Indian Railways has also come forward to help the government. The national transporter has set a target of making Green Railways by the year 2030. Indian Railways has started working to achieve this goal. Indian Railways installed solar panels on the roof of many stations. Central Railway has installed a solar plant with 10 MW peak (mega watt peak) capacity on Igatpuri Lake. According to Central Railway officials, this plant has been installed to take advantage of renewable energy sources, use solar energy, wind-energy resources.

MoSPI is committed to improving user experience and data accessibility through use of cutting edge technologies and adoption of global best practices. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released three books on the life and journey of former Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu on the eve of his 75th birthday through video conferencing. The books released by the Prime Minister include (i) a biography of the former Vice President “ Venkaiah Naidu – Life in Service ” written by Shri S. Nagesh Kumar , former Resident Editor, The Hindu, Hyderabad edition ; (ii) “ Celebrating Bharat – The Mission and Message of Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu as 13th Vice President of India ”, a photo chronicle compiled by Dr. I.V. Subba Rao, former Secretary to the Vice President of India ; and (iii) an illustrated biography in Telugu “ Mahanetha – Life and Journey of Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu ” written by Shri Sanjay Kishore .
