New Delhi: Addressing the ever-growing global demand for Generative AI expertise, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has announced the launch of its Certificate Programme in Generative AI under its Continuing Education Programme (CEP). This six-month advanced programme is designed to equip professionals with in-depth skills in artificial intelligence, bridging India’s widening AI talent gap while fostering technological innovation and industry leadership.
According to PwC, AI could contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, surpassing the combined current economic output of China and India. India’s potential for economic growth through Generative AI adoption is equally promising. A recent EY report indicates that India could add $359 to $438 billion to its GDP by 2029-30, accounting for an additional 5.9% to 7.2% of GDP. Further underscoring this potential, the Indian government has pledged ₹10,300 crore towards strengthening the AI ecosystem through initiatives such as the IndiaAI Compute Capacity, Innovation Centres, Datasets Platforms, etc. However, with 72% of companies facing AI, data analytics and cybersecurity skills shortages, there is a pressing need for comprehensive upskilling.
The Certificate Programme in Generative AI offers a deep dive into advanced AI methodologies, with a focus on Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT, BERT and T5. Learners will explore cutting-edge areas like Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), and responsible AI deployment. The curriculum covers six specialised modules including, Mathematical Foundations for ML, ML, Natural Language Processing, Generative AI for Text, Generative AI for Vision and Responsible AI.
Speaking on the programme’s launch, Professor Tanmoy Chakraborty, Rajiv Khemani Young Faculty Chair Professor in AI, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence, IIT Delhi said, “The Certificate Programme in Generative AI equips professionals with future-ready skills, enabling India to emerge as a global AI hub. As AI reshapes the industrial landscape, modern technologies must be implemented to boost efficiency and drive meaningful change. Generative AI, with its transformative potential, will redefine the future of work.”
Learners will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art tools such as Python, NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch and TensorFlow while mastering NLP tools like NLTK and spaCy for efficient data processing. Learners of this programme will be well-positioned for high-demand roles, including AI Research Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist with Generative AI Expertise, NLP Engineer/Scientist and Generative AI Specialist. Applications for Gen AI span diverse sectors such as healthcare, finance, education and autonomous systems, where several AI-driven innovations are expected to create numerous opportunities.
The programme will be delivered through live online interactive sessions in a Direct-to-Device (D2D) format, featuring industry-relevant case studies, simulations, projects and assignments. Learners will also benefit from an exclusive one-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi, gaining direct exposure to the institution’s renowned academic and research excellence.
