All of us have been in THAT situation where we never know what to do; where we just sit on the couch and watch television for entertainment, but somehow, even the TV does not bring us joy. During times like these, have we ever thought about another source of entertainment? The kind that has been on earth for hundreds of years. Books.

Books open-up a whole new world to the readers. A child’s exposure to books at a very early age boosts information literacy. Book after book, the possibilities are endless at a library, the repository of books, periodicals, manuscripts, compact discs, audiobooks, etc. An important aspect of a school is its library. It serves as a gateway of education.

We all are aware of books, but some of us only think of them as a disturbing source of education. Well, all of you must have probably read storybooks in your childhood, which made you the princes or princesses in the kingdom of fairy tales and what not! However, we lose interest to read when we become 9 or 10 years old. Why? How did this happen? Well, modern society is the reason for that since it promotes the use of technology everywhere.

Although it is a good idea, it has its own pitfalls. What turned into a disaster was when adults began giving their children mobile phones and other electronic gadgets at the age when children should not watch digital devices overtime. To overcome this catastrophe, schools have libraries for the children who study under the roof. This has been promoted all over the world and has recreated the dull lives of many children in new ways which makes them happy.

If you wonder why your class teacher does not like students playing games or watching YouTube on their devices, it is because these activities not only cause eye problems and virtual autism, but these also make us very gloomy people who do not talk to fellow classmates.

Happy upbringing, proper childhood, and successful youth is the way of life. The innocence and cheerfulness of a child can never be hindered by books. A school library is of immense significance in a child’s growth. It is said that a school devoid of a library gives to Mother Earth children who are less human.

The school library is a healthy habitat. It provides the right environment and nurtures every pupil with all essentials of a moral, valuable, upright, and principled life.

Jorge Luis Borges, a key figure in International Literature once said, “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.” So, what is the wait for? Just enter into the heavenly gates of a library and immerse yourself into the clouds of knowledge to become the great leader of tomorrow as said ‘Readers become Leaders tomorrow’ By-Irudayaraj S J.
