Meanwhile, private and public schools remained shuttered in several districts in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh on Thursday in wake of an alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of heavy rains in these areas for the next couple of days.

As per the IMD, the heavy rainfall could trigger moderate flash floods in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and also result in localized flooding of streets in these areas.

’Traffic disruptions are likely due to waterlogged roads, and visibility may be reduced in some areas. Minor damage to kutcha (unpaved) roads and vulnerable structures is possible, along with landslides and damage to crops due to the rain and wind,” the weather agency stated.
