1 Rs 1261 crore approved for Namo Drone Didi Yojana
The government has approved the ‘ Namo Drone Didi ‘ scheme with an outlay of Rs 1261 crore to provide drones to women self-help groups (SHGs) . The target of this scheme is from 2024-25 to 2025-2026 . The scheme aims to provide drones to 14500 selected self-help groups during . The Department of Farmers Welfare has issued guidelines for this scheme. Under the scheme, women self-help groups will be given up to Rs 8 lakh for the purchase of drones and other equipment. Honorarium will be given to female drone pilots and training will be given to female drone sakhis. Drones will be rented to farmers through self-help groups. Drones will be used to spray fertilizers in agricultural fields.

The mission is led by ISRO’s Human Space Flight Centre and developed in partnership with AAKA Space Studio, University of Ladakh, IIT Bombay and supported by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council. The mission aims to simulate life in an interplanetary habitat and explore the challenges of establishing a base station beyond Earth . Ladakh’s extreme isolation, harsh climate and unique geographical features make it an ideal location to simulate the challenges faced by astronauts on these celestial bodies. The mission will contribute valuable data to support India’s Gaganyaan programme and future space exploration. Ladakh’s arid climate, high altitude, barren terrain closely resembles Mars and lunar conditions, making it ideal for analog research. Analog missions are field tests in Earth’s environment that mimic extreme space conditions. Analog missions help scientists and engineers understand how humans, robots and technology may respond in space-like conditions.

7 Indigenous transponders proved to be a lifeline for fishermen during cyclone ‘Dana’
Recently, Nabhamitr application helped fishermen at sea during cyclone Dana using Vessel Communication and Support System . Nabhamitr facilitates monitoring of vessel position, route and speed in real time , thereby helping fishermen to return to shore safely during adverse weather conditions like cyclone. It is an initiative of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying using indigenous transponder technology . It enables two-way communication which was not possible before the advent of this technology beyond mobile coverage range. It has been developed by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and is being implemented through NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO . Traditionally, authorities relied on ultra high frequency radio waves and phone calls to contact vessels, but it was difficult to locate fishing boats in distant waters due to the absence of mobile network.
8 Advance ticket reservation time of railways reduced
Indian Railways has changed its ticketing policy and reduced the advance reservation period (ARP) from 120 days to 60 days . This new rule will come into effect from November 1. This change will not affect passengers who have already booked their tickets. About 21% of reservations made 61 to 120 days before the journey were cancelled, while 5% of passengers did not catch the train. Therefore, this decision has been taken. The rule of shorter time limit for reservation will remain applicable in express trains running on some days like Taj Express and Gomti Express . The advance reservation period of 365 days for foreign tourists will not change.
9 Indian Army patrolling begins in Demchok sector of Ladakh
The Indian Army has started patrolling in the Demchok sector of eastern Ladakh from November 1. On October 31, sweets were distributed between Indian and Chinese soldiers during Diwali. There was a border dispute between India and China in the Depsang and Demchok sectors since the Galwan Valley clash in 2020. The soldiers of both the countries had stopped each other’s patrolling at different places. On October 18, information came that both the armies in Ladakh would return to the situation before April 2020. An agreement was reached on patrolling on October 21. In which it was decided that both the armies would patrol the areas where they used to patrol before April 2020.
