Residents of the Department of Pharmacology bring honour to the department

Aligarh : Two junior residents of the Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Dr. Amrita Kumari Pandey and Dr. Pragna Roy secured financial support for their MD theses under the HRD Scheme of the Department of Health Research (DHR) for the financial year 2024-25.

The faculty members and residents including Professor Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman of the Department congratulated them for their remarkable achievements.

Dr. Amrita Kumari Pandey’s thesis, titled “A Study to Evaluate the Clinical Effectiveness of Multi-genetic Pharmacogenomics-guided Treatment in Drug-naive Schizophrenics in the Northern Indian Population: An Open-label, Randomized Controlled Trial,” seeks to incorporate pharmacogenomics into schizophrenia treatment, potentially revolutionizing psychiatric care by customizing interventions based on individual genetic profiles.

Dr. Pragna Roy’s thesis, titled “Comparative Study for Efficacy of L-Carnitine and N-Acetyl Cysteine on Iron Overload-induced Oxidative Stress in Patients with Thalassemia: A Randomized Controlled Trial,” explores novel therapeutic strategies to combat oxidative stress in thalassemia patients, with the goal of enhancing clinical outcomes and improving quality of life.

In addition to these achievements, both residents have been recognized in the Best Thesis Protocol Award competition organized by the Department of Psychiatry, JNMC, AMU. Dr. Amrita Kumari Pandey won the first prize (Dr. Abu Qamar Siddiqui Memorial Award), while Dr. Pragna Roy secured the third prize (Mr. Abdur Rehman Memorial Award).
