The Punjab and Haryana high court has halted the appointment of a new chairperson for the state commission for women in India. The government published an advertisement on 7 April inviting applicants for the role following the removal of former chairperson Manisha Gulati. Gulati has challenged the government’s decision to remove her from the post, which was upheld by a single bench of the high court. The appointment freeze was issued by a HC division bench in response to an appeal.
