The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed seeking t the removal of unauthorised statues installed at public places in Haryana.

The counsel for the Petitioner submits that a statue of late Kishan Das, who happened to be the father of Manmohan Goel, serving Mayor of Rohtak, has been erected near Sonepat stand circle adjoining Mini Secretariat parking, besides the roundabout, which is a public place.

The Counsel submits that besides the incessant inconvenience caused to the public, erection of the statue has led to permanent traffic snarls at the spot.
So much so, he asserts that the action of respondent authorities is in apparent violation of orders dated 18.01.2013 and 31.01.2018 , passed by the Supreme Court, whereby the State Governments and U.Ts. had been directed to ensure that no permission is granted for installation of any statue or construction of any structure on public roads, pavements and sideways.

The Bench comprising Justice Arun Palli and Justice Jagmohan Bansal issued notice to the respondents and seeks clarification from Additional AG for Haryana “as to who has borne the cost of the structure in question. And in the event, the said structure/statue is to be removed/demolished, who shall bear the cost?.”
