The Punjab and Haryana High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the enrollment fee which charged by the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana High Court on the ground that it is exorbitant.

The PIL has been filed by one Pardhuman Garg.

The counsel appearing for the parties submit that this issue came into consideration before the Supreme Court in Bar Council of India Vs. Bonnie Foi Law College and others, 2023 LiveLaw (SC) 96 and has issued directions to the Bar Council of India to look into the disparity in charge of enrollment fee by various State Bar Councils and to come up with a uniform pattern as well as to ensure that the fee does not become oppressive.

The counsel appearing for Bar Council of India and Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana have submitted that they would be taking up the necessary steps pursuant to the directions of the Supreme Court and appropriate decision in the matter shall be taken expeditiously and in view of the judgment of Supreme Court in Bar Council of India (supra).

Taking the statement made by the counsel for the respondents on record, the petition is disposed of by the Division Bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shanker and Justice Vikash Bahl.
