The Delhi University's English Department has raised PhD program fees by a staggering 1,100%, reaching Rs 23,968 from Rs 1,932 the previous year. This sharp increase contrasts significantly with fees for PhD programs in other Delhi University streams, which stand at approximately Rs 4,400. The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has criticized this move, citing concerns about reduced accessibility to quality higher education and the financial burden on students and their families. The student body also highlights a lack of adequate time for fee payment. Both teachers and the SFI demand a rollback of the fee hike.
