ALIGARH : Prof Qudsia Tahseen, Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed Chairperson of the department for three years with effect from January 3, 2025.
Prof Tahseen has been engaged in teaching and research for over the last 35 years. She has published more than 100 research papers in peer reviewed journals of national and international repute.
She has received several prestigious honours and recognitions including the Fellowships of Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, Young Scientist Medal (1995), Rothamsted International Fellow (2003), Erasmus Mundus Scholar (2010-11) and was selected under INSA-DFG Bilateral Exchange Programme to visit Germany (2018) funded by Max Planck Institute of developmental biology, Tubingen, Germany.
She has also conducted pioneering studies in India on nematode development while her ecological findings led to the understanding of shifts in subterranean food web. Her critical analyses of species supplemented with Scanning Electron Microscopic details and her wide taxonomic skills have been accredited internationally as she remains so far the only Asian to receive ONTA Special Award for sustained excellence in Nematology.
