Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India ‘s first underwater metro rail service in Kolkata . The name of the new metro rail route is Howrah Maidan Esplanade section. This will be the country’s first traffic tunnel to pass under the Hooghly River. The Hooghly River separates the cities of Kolkata and Howrah on its eastern and western banks. Howrah station of this railway route will be the deepest metro station in India. This railway route is about five kilometers long. It connects Howrah Maidan to IT hub Salt Lake Sector 5. Work on the East-West Metro Corridor began in 2009 and work on tunneling under the Hooghly River began in 2017.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that the government will organize a special ceremony on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Friday in connection with the passage of this amendment. France has a long history of supporting abortion rights. There, a law was made in 1975 to legalize the provision of voluntary termination of pregnancy. This law was made in the name of the then Health Minister Simon Weil, who supported it. This law allowed abortion up to ten weeks. Later in 2001 it was increased to 12 weeks and in 2022 it was increased to 14 weeks. This procedure has been included in the French national health care system since 1980.

Chhattisgarh- based Coal India ‘s subsidiary South Eastern Coalfield Limited ‘s Gevra mine is set to become Asia’s largest coal mine . Environmental clearance has been granted to increase the production capacity of this mine from the present 52.5 million tonnes to 70 million tonnes per annum. Keeping in view the role of Gevra Coal Mine as one of the mega projects of SECL in meeting the energy needs of the country, the Ministry of Coal through its herculean efforts has achieved environmental clearance of 7 crore tonnes of production in record time. This has been made possible by coordinating with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

The agency attributed the upward revision to stronger-than-expected economic data in 2023, highlighting India’s resilience amid global challenges. Moody’s expects India to remain the fastest growing economy among the G-20 countries over the projected horizon.

The National Dolphin Research Center (NDRC) launched by India is an important milestone in the conservation efforts of the endangered Ganges River Dolphin . Located near the Ganges River in Patna, Bihar , the NDRC aims to become a center for comprehensive research on various aspects of the Ganges dolphin, including behaviour, survival skills and causes of mortality. Of the estimated 3,000 Ganges dolphins in India, about half are found in Bihar. Discovered in 1801, the Ganges river dolphin historically inhabited the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Karnaphuli-Sangu river systems in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Recent studies in the Ganges river basin show that they are present in the main stream and tributaries such as the Ghaghra, Kosi, Gandak, Chambal, Roopnarayan and Yamuna.
