1 President Draupadi Murmu reached Auckland on a two-day visit to New Zealand
President Draupadi Murmu will arrive in Auckland, New Zealand on a three-day state visit. She is going there at the invitation of New Zealand Governor General Dame Cindy Kiro . During this, President Murmu will hold a bilateral meeting with Governor General Kiro and meet Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. President Murmu will also address an education conference and interact with the people of the Indian community. Her visit will strengthen bilateral relations between India and New Zealand. She will reach New Zealand after completing her two-day state visit to Fiji.

3 Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus appointed leader of Bangladesh interim government
Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed the head of the interim government of Bangladesh . This announcement was made by Joynal Abedin, press secretary of the President of Bangladesh. The President of Bangladesh dissolved the Parliament on Tuesday and appointed Yunus as the head of the interim government. The names of the rest of the members of the interim government will be finalized after talks with various political parties. A 13-member team of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement went to Banga Bhawan to discuss the current situation in Bangladesh and the outline of the interim government. They met the President and the chiefs of the three armed forces at 6 pm on Tuesday. Earlier on August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister in the wake of growing protests. Mohammad Yunus is a social worker, banker and economist. He was born on 28 June 1940 in slave and undivided India. He was born in Chittagong , Bengal to a jeweler, Haji Mohammad Saudagar. After initial studies in economics from Dhaka University, he went to America, where he did PhD and started teaching economics. Grameen Bank and Muhammad Yunus were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for eradicating poverty . Muhammad Yunus was called ‘ friend of the poor ‘ and ‘ banker of the poor ‘ for lifting people out of poverty.
4 Indian Government announced National Science Awards
The Government of India on Monday, August 5 announced the National Science Awards (RPV) for Indian scientists. The award ceremony will be held on August 23, the first National Space Day, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. Dr Bappi Paul of the School of Engineering and Technology, National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar was awarded the RPV Vigyan Yuva Puraskar . The other awardees include Dr Purabi Saikia, Associate Professor Botanist, Department of Botany, Banaras Hindu University and Professor Vivek Polshettywar , Nanotechnology Expert, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. The Vigyan Shri award will be presented to Professor Rohit Srivastava of IIT Bombay . Every year, the Government of India honours 15 scientists in the field of science, technology and innovations. The awards are given in four categories: Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva and Vigyan Team. The award winners are selected in 13 fields – Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Technology and Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology. All these awards will also carry a certificate and a medal.
5 First multinational air exercise ‘Taranga Shakti’ begins
The first multinational air exercise ‘ Tarang Shakti ‘ hosted by the Indian Air Force has started in Sulur , South India from Wednesday . To participate in the exercise, aircraft of foreign air forces started landing on Indian soil from Tuesday itself. Air Force Deputy Chief Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh himself welcomed the aircraft of German, Spanish and French Air Forces in the sky by flying in LCA Tejas. The Chief of the German Air Force himself flew the aircraft and reached India. The Indian Air Force is hosting the multinational air exercise ‘Tarang Shakti’ for the first time . 51 countries were invited to participate in the exercise, in which the air forces of 12 countries agreed to come to India. The first phase of the exercise, which will be conducted in two phases, has started in Sulur, South India, which will continue till August 14. Air forces of Germany, France, Spain and Britain have reached India to participate in it. After that, the second phase will be held in Jodhpur in the western region from August 29 to September 14, in which air forces of America, Australia, Greece, Bangladesh, Singapore, UAE will participate.

Hachani was named as the Prime Minister of Tunisia in August last year.
7 CS Shetty will take over as the Chairman of State Bank of India, appointed for a term of three years
The government has appointed CS Shetty as the Chairman of State Bank of India for a term of three years. Mr Shetty is the senior-most managing director of the country’s largest lender bank (SBI). He will replace the current chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara on August 28. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Department of Financial Services to appoint Mr Shetty as SBI Chairman for a term of three years from the date of assuming charge.
8 Nagaland Government and SBI General Insurance signed MoU for DRTPS
Taking a significant step towards disaster preparedness, the state government and SBI General Insurance signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Disaster Risk Transfer Parametric Insurance Solution (DRTPS). This makes Nagaland the first state in the country to implement this disaster management insurance . State Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced that the new insurance partnership aims to protect the state from natural disasters.
9 NIT-C launches ‘Nivahika’ web portal for data management
National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC) has taken a significant leap in data management with the launch of its state-of-the-art web portal ‘ Nivahika ‘. Inaugurated by Professor Prasad Krishna, Director, NITC at a function held at the Senate Hall, the portal will transform the way data is handled and reported at the Institute. The development of Nivahika was overseen by the Office of the Dean (Planning & Development), with significant support from the Centre for Information Technology, Research & Automation, Centre for Computer Networking and Central Computer Centre. The portal is designed for systematic and timely recording of key activities by various departments and multidisciplinary centres, ensuring that critical data is accessible at any time.
10 RBI gave instructions to banks after the government’s decision to continue the revised interest subsidy scheme
In view of the decision of the Central Government to continue the revised interest subsidy scheme, the Reserve Bank of India has asked banks to provide short-term loans at low interest rates for crop loans, animal husbandry, dairy, fisheries, beekeeping and related activities. Farmers will be given a limited amount of Rs 3 lakh at an interest rate of 7 percent. The Reserve Bank said in a notification that the lending institutions will get a discount of one and a half percent in interest for the year 2024-25. Farmers who repay the loan on time will be given an additional discount of three percent in interest. The Reserve Bank said that it will be mandatory to link Aadhaar number to take short-term loans. To prevent farmers from selling their produce in a crisis situation and to encourage storage of produce in warehouses, small and marginal farmers will get the benefit of interest waiver for an additional period of 6 months after harvesting the crop under the Kisan Credit Card Scheme.
11 RBL Bank launches RuPay credit cards with UPI and NCMC functionalities
RBL Bank has announced the integration of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) services on the RuPay credit cards sold by it . The offering combines multiple payment capabilities into a single card. RBL Bank said the new RuPay credit cards will allow users to make “seamless and secure” UPI payments, while facilitating hassle-free travel through the NCMC facility.
12 Paris Olympics-2024: Female wrestler Vinesh Phogat disqualified in the final event of 50 kg freestyle wrestling
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been ruled out of the Paris Olympics due to being overweight in the prescribed category . She will not be able to play the final of the 50 kg category women’s wrestling to be held on Wednesday night. Vinesh plays in the 50 kg category. The Indian Olympic Association has confirmed that Vinesh has been disqualified. Now she will not get any medal in the Olympics. An appeal cannot be made against this decision. Vinesh became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the final of the 50 kg wrestling Olympics by winning 3 matches on August 6. She defeated Cuban wrestler Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals, Oksana Livach of Ukraine in the quarter-finals and world champion Yui Susaki of Japan 3-2 in the pre-quarter-finals. Vinesh was playing in the 50 kg category for the first time and before that she used to play in 53 kg.

14 Dinesh Karthik appointed as ambassador of SA20 League
