1 PM releases 109 varieties of high-yielding, climate-resilient and bio-fortified crops
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released 109 varieties of high yielding, climate resilient and bio-fortified crops at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi . The 109 varieties of 61 crops released by the Prime Minister include 34 field crops and 27 horticulture crops . Under field crops, seeds of various cereals including coarse cereals, fodder crops, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, fibre and other potential crops were released. Under horticulture crops, various varieties of fruits, vegetables, plantation crops, tuber crops, spices, flowers and medicinal crops were released.
2 Paul Kagame sworn in as President of Rwanda for fourth term
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has taken oath for the fourth term . He has received more than 99 percent of the votes. Rwanda’s Chief Justice Faustin Nzeliyo administered the oath of office to him. The President has pledged to restore peace, sovereignty and unity.
3 Jammu and Kashmir: 10 thousand girls created a world record by presenting the largest number of Kashmiri folk dances
10 thousand young women have created a world record by presenting the largest number of Kashmiri folk dances ever in the cultural festival ‘ Kashur Riwaj ‘ organized in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir . They have registered their name in the Universal Record Forum (URF) . This folk dance was presented to commemorate the 78th Independence Day . This spectacular event was organized by the Dagger Division of Chinar Corps in collaboration with the Baramulla District Administration and Indrani Balan Foundation. The festival was organized at Professor Shaukat Ali Indoor Stadium.
4 Country’s first Rice ATM launched in Odisha
Odisha has launched India’s first round-the-clock grain dispensing machine , known as Annapurti Grain ATM , which is designed to replace the Public Distribution System (PDS) for ration cardholders. The Odisha government has launched this scheme. It has been named ‘ Rice ATM ‘. Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister Krishna Chandra Patra has inaugurated the country’s first Rice ATM in Bhubaneswar. Rice ATM has been launched in a warehouse in Mancheswar area. It has been designed to organize the Public Distribution System (PDS). The government believes that Rice ATM will bring transparency in the system of rice distribution and people will not have to go door to door. The government has also set a procedure to avail the benefits of Rice ATM.
5 Chhattisgarh will have the country’s third largest tiger reserve, notified in Guru Ghasidas – Tamor Pingla
Due to a decline in the number of tigers in recent years, Chhattisgarh on August 7 approved a long-pending proposal to notify a new tiger reserve – the third largest in the country . The Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve , which integrates an existing national park with a wildlife sanctuary, is Chhattisgarh’s fourth reserve for big cats. It is spread over 2,829 sq km in four northern districts of the state. The Guru Ghasidas – Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve will be the third largest tiger reserve in the country, spreading over an area of 2829.387 sq km. Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve of Andhra Pradesh is the largest tiger reserve in the country with an area of 3296.31 sq km. At the same time, Manas Tiger Reserve of Assam is considered to be the second largest tiger reserve in the country with an area of 2837.1 sq km.
6 Nalganga-Vainganga river linking project gets approval
The state cabinet on August 6 approved the 426.52 km long Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project , estimated to cost ₹88,575 crore . The decision is expected to help the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections in the Vidarbha region , as the project will irrigate 3.7 lakh hectares of agricultural land in six districts affected by farmer suicides. The Wainganga-Nalganga river linking project was proposed in 2018 when Devendra Fadnavis, who hails from the Vidarbha region , was the chief minister. But, the project was shelved after the change of government in 2019. After coming back to power, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently sent the proposal for the river linking project to the state governor for approval.
7 SEBI approves Praveena Rai as new MD and CEO of MCX
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has approved the appointment of Praveena Rai as the Managing Director and CEO of India’s largest commodity exchange Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) . The decision comes after a three-month vacancy in the position.

Paris Olympics 2024 has concluded with a grand ceremony. India ranked 71st in the medal table with 6 medals. Indian players won a total of 6 medals including one silver and five bronze medals . India was ranked 48th in the medal table in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics . And it got a total of 7 medals including one gold, two silver and four bronze. America topped the medal list with a total of 126 medals including 40 gold. China also finished second by winning 91 medals including 40 gold medals. Japan finished third with 45 medals including 20 gold and Australia finished fourth with a total of 53 medals including 18 gold. Now in 2028, the Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, USA . Los Angeles will host the Olympic Games for the third time after 1932 and 1984.
9 First global women’s kabaddi league to start in Haryana next month
The first global women’s Kabaddi League will begin in Haryana next month . It has been officially named the Global Overseas Women’s Kabaddi League . Women players from over 15 countries will participate in this unprecedented tournament. The event will significantly contribute to promoting Kabaddi internationally , including it in the Olympic Games and strengthening India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics . Teams from various countries including England, Poland, Argentina, Canada and Italy will perform in it. The event will be launched in Haryana in partnership with World Kabaddi and Holistic International Overseas Sports Association . A MoU has recently been signed between the association and the Haryana government for this initiative. India is striving to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Inclusion of Kabaddi in it will be a significant achievement.
10 International Olympic Committee honoured India’s first Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra with Olympic Order
The International Olympic Association has honoured India’s first Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra with the Olympic Order . Mr Bindra was given this award in Paris . The Olympic Order award is the highest honour given for outstanding performance in the Olympics . Mr Bindra won gold in the 10-metre air rifle event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. This was India’s first Olympic gold in an individual event. Mr Bindra has won more than 150 medals in individual events in his career and is a well-known name in the Indian sports world.
11 Sanjay Subba, Anita Subba and Jitendra Limbu will represent India at the 7th Heroes International Taekwondo Championship in Bangkok
Sikkim ‘s Sanjay Subba, Anita Subba and Jitendra Limbu are representing India in the 7th Heroes International Taekwondo Championship in Bangkok . This three-day competition has started. Sanjay Subba will show his skills in the Kyorugi event in the under 60 kg weight category. Apart from this, he will also participate in the mixed team Poomse event. Anita Subba and Jitendra Limbu will also participate in the doubles Poomse event apart from the mixed team Poomse event.
12 Former Foreign Minister Natwar Singh passed away after prolonged illness in Gurugram, Haryana
Former Foreign Minister Natwar Singh died after prolonged illness in Gurugram, Haryana. He was 93 years old. Mr Singh was born in 1931 in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan . He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1984. Natwar Singh served as Foreign Minister in the UPA government led by Dr. Manmohan Singh from May 2004 to December 2005. He also served as Ambassador to Pakistan and was attached to the office of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1966 to 1971. The book “One Life Is Not Enough: An Autobiography” was written by Natwar Singh. The book details the reasons for refusing the Prime Minister’s post to Sonia Gandhi in the year 2004.
