The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has submitted three nominations from India for Wetland City Certification (WCA) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands for the cities of Indore ( Madhya Pradesh ), Bhopal ( Madhya Pradesh ) and Udaipur ( Rajasthan ). These are the first three Indian cities for which nominations have been submitted for WCA based on proposals received from the respective State Wetland Authorities in collaboration with Municipal Corporations. Wetlands located in and around these cities provide numerous benefits to their citizens in terms of flood regulation, livelihood opportunities, recreational and cultural values. Sirpur Wetland (Ramsar site in Indore), Yashwant Sagar (Ramsar site near Indore), Bhoj Wetland (Ramsar site in Bhopal) and many wetlands (lakes) in and around Udaipur . serve as a lifeline for these cities.

The Indian government has decided to end the Free Movement Regime (FMR) , which allows people living along the India-Myanmar border visa-free entry up to 16 kilometers of each other’s territory .
