1 PM Modi launched ‘Dharti Aba Tribal Village Development Campaign’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, October 2 launched the ‘ Dharti Aaba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan ‘. It will be implemented at a cost of Rs 79,150 crore . Dharti Aaba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan will benefit more than 5 crore tribals in 549 districts of 30 states and union territories . The scheme aims to eliminate gaps in social infrastructure, health, education and livelihood through 25 interventions undertaken by 17 central ministries and departments. The PM also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several projects worth more than Rs 1,360 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN). These include construction of more than 1,380 km of roads, 120 Anganwadi centers, 250 multi-purpose centers and 10 school hostels. In addition, the Prime Minister announced electrification of over 75,800 households belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in about 3,000 villages. Other initiatives include operationalisation of 275 mobile medical units, setting up of 500 Anganwadi centres, establishment of 250 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras and provision of piped water in over 5,550 PVTG villages.
2 Prashant Kishore announced the formation of Jan Suraj Party in Patna
Political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishore announced the political transformation of his organisation Jan Suraj into Jan Suraj Party at a rally held in Patna . Former diplomat Manoj Bharti was appointed the working president of the party. Mr Kishore announced that the Jan Suraj Party will field candidates on all 243 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. He also announced to field candidates in the upcoming by-elections for four assembly seats.
3 Arunachal Pradesh Police and Rajiv Gandhi University signed an agreement in Itanagar on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti
Police in Arunachal Pradesh and Rajiv Gandhi University signed an MoU on Gandhi Jayanti in Itanagar . Under the MoU, Annie’s Home – A Healing Centre for Trauma Victims will be established. This centre will work in the field of providing shelter, protection and justice to victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence and other traumas . These centres of Annie’s Home will have facilities like library, auditorium, fitness centre, child protection room, legal aid clinic, counselling centre, gym and cafeteria for trauma victims. Rajiv Gandhi University will play a key role in this initiative and provide expertise and support. Volunteers from the departments of Social Work, Psychology, National Security Studies and Law will provide necessary support at the counselling centre to help trauma victims.
4 Nagaland government selects Wales as one of the partner countries for the upcoming 25th edition of Hornbill Festival
The Nagaland government has chosen Wales as one of the partner countries for the upcoming 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival . Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced the signing of the agreement with representatives of the Welsh Government, British Council and Wales Arts International in Cardiff. Mr Rio said the partnership will mark the grand finale of the year-long Wales in India 2024 festival.
5 In Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly constructed Bapu Tower in Patna on the occasion of 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the newly built Bapu Tower in Patna on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi ‘s 155th birth anniversary . The iconic five-storey building with cylindrical and rectangular structures has several galleries dedicated to the life of the Father of the Nation. A special section on Mahatma Gandhi’s Bihar visit and Champaran Satyagraha has been aesthetically added along with audio-visual material for the visitors . The entire complex of Bapu Tower is spread over seven acres of land with six acres left for parks and other amenities. One of the biggest attractions of Bihar’s modern-day cultural landscape, Bapu Tower has been constructed at a cost of Rs 129 crore.
6 Clean India campaign completes 10 years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan from the Red Fort on 15 August 2014. Subsequently, on 2 October 2014, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched as a nationwide movement. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has been a transformational initiative that has revolutionized sanitation in India, leading to widespread public health benefits. By providing millions of toilets, reducing infant mortality and improving women’s safety, the campaign has made a profound impact on the lives of Indians. Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin: Phase 1 (2014-2019) The first phase of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G) was an unprecedented initiative that emphasized nationwide participation in sanitation efforts. Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin: Under Phase 1, more than 10.14 crore individual household toilets were constructed across the country between 2014 – 15 and 2019 – 20. Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin: Phase II (2019-2025) Based on the success of Phase I, Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin: Phase II was launched to maintain ODF status by 2025 and manage solid and liquid waste. Under this phase, around 1.5 crore toilets were constructed across the country. Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban Launched on 2 October 2014 , Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) has brought about a significant change in urban sanitation and cleanliness in India. Focused on achieving 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) status, ensuring scientific solid waste management (SWM) and driving behaviour change through “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement), SBM-U has had a far-reaching impact. From 2014 to 2021 , the mission allocation for States and Union Territories on Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) was Rs 13605.46 crore. Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0 Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban 2.0 was launched on October 1, 2021. It aims to achieve garbage free status for all cities by ensuring 100% separation of waste at source, door-to-door collection and scientific management of all fractions of waste. The duration of the mission is 2021 – 26. The mission allocation for States and Union Territories under Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 is Rs 32516 crore.
7 Shooter Divyanshi wins gold medal at ISSF Junior World Championship in Peru
Indian shooter Divyanshi won the gold medal in women’s 25m pistol on the fourth day of the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima , Peru . She defeated Italy’s Cristina Magnani by two points with a score of 35 in the final. Heloise Fourre of France finished third. This was the second gold medal for Divyanshi as she along with India’s Tejaswini and Vibhuti Bhatia won the gold medal in the junior women’s 25m pistol team ahead of Czechia and Germany. India tops the ISSF Junior World Championship with 14 medals including 10 gold, one silver and three bronze. USA is second while Italy is third.
8 Kho Kho World Cup 2025 will be organized in India
The Kho Kho Federation of India-KKFI and the International Kho Kho Federation have announced that the Kho Kho World Cup 2025 will be held in India . 24 countries from 6 continents will participate in this event in which 16 men’s teams and as many women’s teams will take part. The aim of the Kho Kho World Cup is to promote this indigenous Indian sport at the international level. Kho Kho has its roots in India. Organizing this World Cup will highlight the rich cultural heritage and competitive spirit of the Kho-Kho game. This game which started from mud has now reached the mat. 54 countries around the world are playing this game.
9 Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama banned from all forms of cricket for one year
Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned from all forms of cricket for one year . The ICC has found him guilty of violating the Anti-Corruption Code-ACC. 26-year-old Jayawickrama has accepted his charge. He was accused of obstructing and delaying the investigation. Jayawickrama has accepted the one-year period of ineligibility.
10 International Day of Non-Violence 2024
International Day of Non-Violence is observed every year on 2 October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a global symbol of peace and non-violence . The United Nations declared this day as the International Day of Non-Violence in 2007. It reminds us of the power of non-violence in building society. Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha and non-violent protest remain an important transformative tool in modern history. Mahatma Gandhi’s peaceful protests against British rule, especially the Dandi March in 1930 , reflect his belief in the power of non-violence against exploitation. For Mahatma Gandhi, non-violence was not just a political tool, but a way of life. He believed that peace can be achieved only through peaceful means.
