PIL filed in Allahabad High Court on non operational postmortem house in Lakhimpur Kheri

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court aggrieved by non-operationalisation of a postmortem house constructed in Nighasan, District- Lakhimpur Kheri by the Government of U.P.

The Division Bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Om Prakash Shukla heard the petition filed by Syed Mohammad Haider Rizvi.

In the petition, it was stated that there is only one functional post-mortem house in Lakhimpur Kheri District.

It was further stated that though the post-mortem house was sanctioned in 1993, it was constructed in 2013 and yet there is no hope for the citizens as it is not functional.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that some Hearse vehicles for transporting the dead bodies from various parts of the district to the headquarters where other postmortem house exists and is operational now to which Isha Mittal, Additional CSC says that there are hearse vehicles available, however, she could not find out as to how many of them are available.

The Court directed the Chief Medical Officer, Lakhimpur Kheri shall look into the matter as to how many such vehicles are available and whether they are operational and what is their condition. The counter affidavit shall indicate this aspect also.

The Court granted three weeks time to file counter affidavit for the respondents and one week time to file rejoinder affidavit. List immediately thereafter.
