DUSHANBE – Starting today, Ozan Sevimli becomes the World Bank Group Country Manager for Tajikistan, a position that will unify country-level leadership across the institution to better support Tajikistan’s public and private sector priorities. Mr. Sevimli will lead the programs of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development/International Development Association, International Finance Corporation, and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency in Tajikistan, providing a single point of contact for access to the full breadth of World Bank Group products and services. This will enhance the institutions’ ability to address global challenges, and drive development with speed, efficiency, and impact.

“Tajikistan faces a unique set of challenges ranging from institutional and human capital development constraints to adverse impacts of climate change on the economy and people’s livelihoods,” said Ozan Sevimli, the World Bank Group Country Manager for Tajikistan. “Unified Bank Group leadership will enable us to take a more holistic approach in the projects we support and make us a better partner to the government, the private sector, and ultimately the people of Tajikistan.”

In Tajikistan, the World Bank Group works to ensure reliable electricity and water supply, improve roads and transport infrastructure, enhance education and healthcare systems, improve food security, enable private sector growth, and build institutions for effective governance and state administration, all aimed at creating a stronger and more prosperous society.

Prior to this role, Ozan Sevimli was the World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan since August 2021. In this position he led the World Bank’s policy dialogue and managed overall program delivery. Previously, he also served as World Bank Resident Representative for Jamaica and Guyana in the Latin America and Caribbean Region, the Program Coordinator for the South Caucasus unit of the World Bank, based in Tbilisi, Georgia; as well as the Senior Strategy and Operations Officer in the Vice President’s office for the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank.

The introduction of joint country representation is an important step towards building a stronger World Bank Group. Tajikistan is one of 21 World Bank Group offices transitioning to a single World Bank Group Country Manager or Resident Representative for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
