In 2018-19 , India signed a significant defense deal with Russia to procure S-400 missiles worth ₹35,000 crore. , with the aim of acquiring a total of five squadrons of these advanced air defense systems. In another development that underlines India’s commitment to enhancing its defense capabilities, the Indian Defense Acquisition Council recently approved the procurement of the Indian Long Range Surface Air Missile (LR-SAM) system under Project Kusha. The West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation has been asked by an arbitral tribunal to pay damages worth Rs 766 crore to Tata Motors . West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation has been asked to pay this amount in lieu of the loss suffered by Tata Motors in connection with setting up a car manufacturing factory in Singur . In October 2008, due to a dispute over land, Tata Motors had to move its plant from Singur to Sanand in Gujarat . By then Tata Motors had invested more than Rs 1,000 crore in Singur. Tata Motors is also entitled to take Rs 1 crore from the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation in lieu of the expenses incurred in connection with the legal proceedings in this case. It is known that in June 2010, Tata Motors started a new Nano car factory in Sanand .
6 Indian Red Cross Society of Andhra Pradesh signs MOU with NCC to enroll NCC students as YRC volunteers
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) , Andhra Pradesh (AP) has entered into a first of its kind MoU with National Cadet Corps (NCC) to enroll NCC students as Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers in Andhra Pradesh (AP). Memorandum (MoU) has been signed. Under this MoU, IRSC will provide instruction to AP NCC cadets in first aid, CPR and disaster relief. NCC cadets will be encouraged to donate blood in times of need and participate in environmental activities to combat climate change. As YRC volunteers, NCC students will provide services during emergencies in Andhra Pradesh.
7 ‘Home Minister Special Campaign Award’ announced, four special campaigns will get rewards

Many officers and personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force, National Investigation Agency, Narcotics Control Bureau and various states and organizations have been selected for this award. According to the Home Ministry, this award will be given for special operations in areas like anti-terrorist operations, border operations, arms control, drug trafficking prevention and rescue operations. 10 IFFI invites renowned cinematographers and filmmakers from around the world as jury
The 54th International Film Festival of India – IFFI has invited renowned filmmakers, cinematographers and filmmakers from across the world as a jury to evaluate the ‘ International Competition ‘ and ‘ Best Directorial Debut Feature Film ‘ awards. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has said that this year’s festival has received a record 2,926 entries from 105 countries. Members of the international jury include chairman filmmaker Shekhar Kapur , cinematographer Jose Luis Alcain , filmmakers Jérôme Paillard , Catherine Dussart and Helen Leek . 15 feature films from important genres have been selected in the international competition. The international jury will select the prestigious Best Film Award which includes the ‘Golden Peacock’ and certificates for the director and producer. Apart from Best Film, the jury will also select winners in the Best Director, Best Actor and Actress and Special Jury Award categories. The International Film Festival of India will be held in Goa from 20 to 28 November.

13 Indian Navy launches DSC A 21
The Indian Navy achieved an important milestone with the launch of ‘DSC A 21’, the second vessel of the Diving Support Craft (DSC) project on October 30, 2023 . The effort is a collaboration with M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) , headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal , and represents a significant development for India’s maritime capabilities. These Diving Support Craft (DSC) are purpose built for diving operations in port and coastal waters. Equipped with state-of-the-art diving equipment, they will prove instrumental in enhancing the underwater capabilities of the Indian Navy. The ships have a catamaran hull design and a displacement of approximately 300 tons.
14 New species of mushroom discovered in the Western Ghats
Recently the Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (JNTBGRI) revealed a newly identified species of mushroom , Candolemyces albosquamosus , found within the Western Ghats in Kerala . This mushroom displays an attractive honey-like yellow ‘cap’ with distinctive white woolly scale-like structures. It grows on piles of dead (dry) wood and bamboo within natural forest habitat.

The government, think tanks and various external agencies are actively involved in shaping the vision paper implementation. 17 Swan Energy paid ₹231 crore to acquire Reliance Naval & Engineering

He played an important role in the unification of several Indian princely states to form the Indian Union . The women of Bardoli gave Vallabhbhai Patel the title of ‘ Sardar ‘, meaning ‘ a chief or a leader ‘. Statue of Unity in Kevadiya , Narmada district of Gujarat (2018) was built in his honour. This statue was established as the tallest statue in the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Statue of Unity on October 31, 2018, the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This massive structure, 182 meters high, became a symbol of national pride and a landmark.

24 Famous ‘climate expert’ Salimul Haq passes away
Famous climate science expert Salimul Haq passed away in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh . He was 71 years old. Salimul Haq was born on October 2, 1952 in Karachi, Pakistan. He grew up in Europe, Asia and Africa due to his parents’ diplomatic postings, and moved to Britain in the 1970s to study at Imperial College London, where he earned a doctorate in botany in 1978. Salimul Haq helped establish the International Center for Climate Change and Development in Dhaka . He has also been a Senior Assistant and Program Founder at the International Institute for Environment and Development in London and has taught at universities in England and Bangladesh. In 2022 , Queen Elizabeth II honored Haq with the Order of the British Empire, her highest civilian honour, for his efforts . Haq published hundreds of scientific and popular articles. In 2022, he was included in the list of top 10 scientists of the world in the science magazine ‘Nature’.
