Chandigarh – Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Chandigarh campus, reaffirmed its dedication to fostering inclusivity and social responsibility among its students and staff with two impactful events. One such recent event was a special lecture featuring renowned transgender activist, Ms. Dhananjay Chauhan to shed light on the historical and contemporary struggles of transgender individuals in Indian society, sparking meaningful discourse among attendees.
Ms. Chauhan, known for her leadership in organizations like Saksham Prakriti Welfare Society and her global advocacy through platforms like International Inter Pride, engaged BA LLB students in a profound discussion. Delving into the historical and present struggles of transgender people in India, she traced their significance from ancient times to the impact of British colonialism. Ms. Chauhan emphasized the urgent need for societal acceptance to ensure the rightful inclusion and dignity of transgender individuals. The lecture concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where students delved into the plight of transgender individuals. Dr Rashmi K Nagpal, Associate Dean, NMIMS Chandigarh School of Law, discussed the practical difficulties and concerns about the Transgender Act with Ms. Dhanajay Chauhan and applauded her efforts and struggle throughout her journey.
In another display of commitment to social impact, NMIMS Chandigarh’s School of Commerce’s Social Responsibility Club, “Prayatna,” joined hands with Union Bank of India for its second Financial Inclusion Drive. This initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy and access to essential services among NMIMS Chandigarh staff. Through a series of seminars and a Financial Inclusion Camp, the drive facilitated the opening of 23 new bank accounts and contributed to the improved financial well-being of 20 individuals.
These events serve as poignant examples of NMIMS Chandigarh’s dedication to fostering a culture of inclusivity and responsibility. By actively engaging with pressing social issues and empowering its community members, the campus continues to set a benchmark for educational institutes in Chandigarh and beyond.
