The National Medical Commission (NMC) has capped MBBS batch sizes to 150 for new medical colleges, aiming to enhance medical education quality and reduce overcrowding. New regulations allow batch sizes ranging from 50 to 150 seats, with existing colleges unaffected. Dr Aruna V Vanikar, President of UGMEB, NMC, cites stakeholder input and Ministry of Health approval for the change. The move addresses overcrowded classes, streamlines college establishment, and promotes equitable access to medical education.
