New Dean at the Faculty of Arts

ALIGARH : Prof T.N. Satheesan, Department of Modern Indian Languages, Aligarh Muslim University has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Arts for the period from December 20, 2024 to May 29, 2026, the date of his superannuation.

Prof Satheesan’s career spans over 36 years, beginning as a Lecturer in Malayalam at Guruvayoorappan College, Calicut, in 1988. Shortly after, he joined AMU’s Department of Modern Indian Languages as a lecturer of Malayalam in 1988 and became a Professor in 2006.

Throughout his career, Prof Satheesan has made remarkable research contributions, including a minor research project on language use among linguistic minorities and a UGC major research project on cataloguing Malayalam manuscripts in North India.

He is a prolific author, with two significant publications to his credit, including “Language Maintenance and Shift” and “Imagery in the Poems of P. Kunhiraman Nayar.” He also edited the book “Aligarh Malayalam” and translated several short stories and various literary works into Malayalam.

He has been on various prominent scholarly societies, including the Linguistic Society of India, the All India Oriental Conference, the Indian Society of Buddhist Studies, and the Comparative Literature Association of India. Further, he has served on various educational boards as an expert member and held prestigious positions, including the Director of the AMU Centre in Malappuram.

Presently, he is also serving as the Chairperson, Department of Modern Indian Languages.
