New Delhi: Following the NEET PG 2024 Test City Controversy, the Indian Medical Association – Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) has written a fresh letter to Health Minister J P Nadda urging him to intervene and look into the matter. In the letter, IMA-JDN has sought support to revise the allotted centre for candidates who have been granted far and distant test centres. The Junior Doctors Network said, “Several candidates across the country have been allotted centres far away from their place of residence/native state and/or in cities, totally different from the four preferred choices filled by the aspirants during the process of allotment, as directed by the testing authorities.”
The severe landslides in Wayanad, which have claimed numerous lives, the heavy rain in Gujarat, the water-logged areas, and the IMD red alert have further exacerbated the situation, “Climatic conditions may not favourable to the aspirants at various places and therefore availability of flights and other modes of transportation will be an added issue to those allotted such centers. Aspirants are incurring high costs for transportation and accommodation, with flight tickets already surging. The sudden changes have caused significant mental trauma and loss of confidence, impacting last-minute preparation of the students,” Junior Doctors Network added.
The NEET-PG exam initially announced to be held on March 3, has been postponed multiple times. Currently, the NEET PG examination will be held on August 11 in two shifts.
NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses as per Section 61(2) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 read with Chapter IV of Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023.
Earlier in August, the All India Student’s Union (AISU) filed a petition before the chief commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. According to the petition, the Petitioner, Sai Krishna, is the National Vice President of the All India Students Union, a division of the Federation of Indian Students Association, registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882. The Petitioner represents the interests of students, including those with disabilities, across India. Candidates have reported that some centres are located as far as 1,000 km away, leading to widespread demands for relocating the centres to the first preferred city listed in their application forms. This year, the NEET PG examination will be held on August 11, 2024, in two shifts.
