N.L.Dalmia High School- Teaching life skills to students.

The foundation of every country is the education of its youth. In the present globally competitive and fast paced scenario, education needs to relate to life, needs and aspirations of social, economic and cultural transformation necessary for the realization of national goals. Education is a dynamic concept that changes and evolves with time and is modified according to the social, economic and environmental contexts.

A pivotal role of education lies in shaping the personality of a child into a healthy mind and a happy soul, that is not only equipped the latest skill and aptitude required for academic excellence but also with values that help the child face the challenges of life in a balanced and harmonious way. Therefore, the system of education should work as a catalyst in making each child a balanced human being, having his core strengths embedded in the learning experiences emanating from our rich socio-cultural roots.

Pedagogies move from teacher-centered to student-cantered lessons and from rote memorization to participatory learning to stimulate learners to ask questions, analyse, think critically and make good decisions Education for sustainable development means adopting a more holistic approach to education with the aim of creating a better world for this generation and future generations. It is not only about being environmentally-friendly; it also involves developing life-skills including Leadership, Communication, Time Management, Self-Awareness, Ability to Make Decisions, Empathy, Critical Thinking, Analytical Thinking, all of which are extremely important for personal development.

Be more concerned about what you leave in your child rather than what you leave for your child. It is essential to acquaint children with the importance of life skills. They must learn early on how to take care of their own mental, physical, emotional, and financial needs. As important as teaching children how to count and spell, teaching youngsters life skills in school is essential. The growth of a child and life skills go hand in hand. They encourage a healthy lifestyle and a sound mind, empowering the child to reach their full potential and engage more effectively with their surroundings.

The more practice students have in facing today’s real-world issues, the more likely they will be able to address the problems they face in the future. Not all of the students will go on to become doctors, engineers, or successful business people. But eventually, they will all mature into adults. Additionally, they will require the necessary life skills in order to be resilient, well-adjusted, and capable of surviving every day.

Formal learning can teach you a great deal, but many of the essential skills in life are the ones which you have to develop on your own.
