1 Mithun Chakraborty will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award
This year the Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to Mithun Chakraborty . Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav made its official announcement on Monday, 30 September. Mithun will be honored at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on 8 October . Mithun started his film career in 1976 with Mrigayaa . He won the National Award in his very first film. He got recognition from Disco Dancer released in 1982 , which is the first film in Hindi cinema to earn 100 crores. Mithun has been one of the highest paid actors in India between the 80-90s. Mithun Chakraborty’s last released Hindi film was ‘ The Kashmir Files ‘ in the year 2022. Apart from this, he also appeared in Bengali films Prajapati and Kabuliwala . Mithun Chakraborty had 19 films released in the year 1989, in which he appeared as a lead actor. His record is recorded in the Limca Book of Records. Mithun Chakraborty was awarded the Padma Shri in January 2024. Mithun is the only actor who was awarded the National Award for Best Actor for his first film. He has won the National Film Award three times and the Filmfare Award twice. In the year 2023, Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She was the 8th woman to receive this award. Before her, this award has been given to Devika Rani, Ruby Myers, Kanan Devi, Durga Khote, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Asha Parekh.
2 Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh takes over as new Chief of the Air Force
Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh took over as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force on Monday, 30 September . He replaced Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari . Chaudhari retired after completing a three-year tenure. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet was born on October 27, 1964. He was commissioned into the fighter pilot category of the Indian Air Force in December 1984. During his service of nearly 40 years, he has served in roles such as command, staff, instructional and foreign appointments. He was also the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre and was entrusted with the flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas. He served as Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command, before taking over the command of the prestigious Central Air Command (CAC). He has held key roles including Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a MIG-27 squadron as well as Air Officer Commanding.
3 Jamaican Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness arrives in India
Jamaican Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness arrived in India on 30 September at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi . Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary welcomed him at the airport. He will be on a 4-day official visit to India from 30 September to 3 October . This will be the first bilateral visit of a Jamaican Prime Minister to India . Earlier, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Dr. Holness have met several times during multilateral meetings. During the visit, Prime Minister Dr. Holness will hold delegation level talks with PM Modi. Dr. Holness will meet the President and Vice President of India. Several MoUs are expected to be signed during this visit, which will further strengthen bilateral relations between India and Jamaica. Jamaica is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea of the North American continent.
4 Maharashtra government gave the status of ‘Rajya Mata’ to the native cow
In Maharashtra, the Eknath Shinde government has given the status of Rajyamata to the indigenous cow . The government took this decision in the cabinet meeting on Monday, 30 September. The Mahayuti government has issued a notification regarding this. In the cabinet meeting, it was decided to implement a subsidy scheme of Rs 50 per day for indigenous cows . Gaushalas could not afford this expense due to their low income, so this decision has been taken. This scheme will be implemented online by the Maharashtra Gauseva Commission . There will be a District Gaushala Verification Committee in every district. Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar held a press conference on Saturday (September 28) regarding the preparations for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is ending on November 26. The election process will be completed before this. The dates are expected to be announced next month. The current Governor of Maharashtra is C.P. Radhakrishnan.
5 An agreement to bring trained elephants (Kumki) from Karnataka
Recently, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring in trained elephants (kumki) from Karnataka to control elephant menace in Andhra Pradesh . This includes deployment of expert team for elephant capture, training programme for mahouts, knowledge transfer, standard operating procedures (SOP) for capture and darting of animals, nutrition and food, along with workshops and seminars. 62 Kumki elephants from Karnataka have been transferred to Uttar Pradesh , Chhattisgarh , Maharashtra and other states. The term Kumki is used in India to refer to trained captive Asian elephants. They assist in locating, rescuing and treating injured wild elephants as well as driving them away from human settlements. Some elephants are trained to obey commands and help train other elephants. They participate in forest patrols in order to support conservation initiatives.
6 India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise ‘KAZIND-2024’ begins in Uttarakhand
The eighth edition of the India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise KAZIND-2024 began on Monday at Auli, a developed and modernized foreign training node in Uttarakhand . The exercise will continue till October 13. The opening ceremony of the joint exercise was attended by Colonel Karibayev Nurlan Serikbayevich Commander Kazakhstan Contingent and Colonel Yogesh Upadhyaya, Commander Indian Contingent of Kazakhstan. The KAZIND exercise is an annual training event held alternately in India and Kazakhstan. The last edition was held in Kazakhstan in July 2023.

8 Virat Kohli completes 27,000 runs in international cricket
India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli completed 27,000 runs in international cricket on the fourth day of the second test match against Bangladesh . He has become the fourth batsman in the world to do so. He is the second Indian batsman after the great Sachin Tendulkar to cross the 27,000 run mark in all formats of international cricket . Kohli has more than 8,870 runs in Tests while he has scored 13,906 runs in 295 ODIs and 4,188 runs in 125 T20 Internationals. Tendulkar has the highest number of runs in international cricket. He has scored 34,357 runs . Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara is at the second place in this list with 28,016 runs and Australia’s Ricky Ponting is at the third place with 27,483 runs.
9 Gautami Bhanot and Ajay Malik pair won bronze medal in ISSF Junior World Championship
In shooting , the Indian pair of Gautami Bhanot and Ajay Malik won the bronze medal by defeating Croatia 17-9 in the air rifle mixed event at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru . In the same event, China defeated France to win the gold medal. In the air pistol mixed event, India’s Lakshita and Pramod won another bronze medal by defeating Kanishka Dagar and Mukesh Nelavani 16-8. Germany won the gold medal, while Ukraine had to settle for the silver medal. With this, India retained its top position in the ISSF Junior World Championship. India has a total of five medals with two gold medals and three bronze . On Saturday, Kanishka Dagar, Lakshita and Anjali Chaudhary together won the team gold in the women’s 10 meter air pistol . Kanak also won the individual bronze medal in the same event. In the men’s 10 meter air pistol, the trio of Umesh Chaudhary, Mukesh Nelavalli and Pramod won the gold medal .
10 Ravindra Jadeja completes 300 wickets in Tests, seventh Indian to achieve the feat
India’s star spinner Ravindra Jadeja has achieved a special feat. In fact, on the fourth day of the ongoing second Test match between India and Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, Ravindra Jadeja has become the seventh Indian cricketer to take 300 wickets in Test cricket . 35-year-old spinner Ravindra Jadeja achieved this feat by dismissing Khalid Ahmed. Jadeja, India’s first left-arm spinner to reach this milestone, achieved this feat in just 73 Tests. He has taken 300 wickets at an impressive average of 23.98 and a strike rate of 58.10. Earlier, among Indian bowlers, Jadeja is the fourth fastest bowler to reach 300 wickets after R. Ashwin (54 matches), Anil Kumble (66) and Harbhajan Singh (72).
