The Radhakrishnan Committee, appointed by India's Ministry of Education, is aiming to create a two-tier accreditation process for higher education institutions by establishing the National Accreditation Council, the committee's head, former ISRO chief Dr K Radhakrishnan, said. The traditional National Assessment Accreditation Council would be one of the accrediting agencies that will fall under the National Accreditation Council. A government consortium would set up other accreditors. The move will help adjust the accreditation system to cater to today's modern universities and professional courses, says Manish Ratnakar Joshi, secretary of the University Grants Commission.
