Professor GK Suryaprakash, chemical scientist and director of Olah Nobel Laureate Chair, has said methanol could be a viable alternative to fossil fuels and assist in mitigating carbon emissions. Speaking at GITAM School of Science in Visakhapatnam, he described the development of renewable energy sources led by methanol as crucial for fighting climate change. Suryaprakash added that creating renewable methanol synthesis from carbon dioxide capture using renewable energies would be a "simple solution in the long run to a complex climate-changing greenhouse gas problem".
