Ilma Afroz, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, has reportedly been sent on long leave, allegedly due to a conflict involving the influential Congress MLA from Doon, Ram Kumar Chaudhary

According to the media reports, the conflict between Superintendent of Police (SP) Ilma Afroz and Congress MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary began in August this year, when the police issued challans for the vehicles belonging to MLA Chaudhary’s wife, Kuldeep Kaur (Nidhi), in connection with illegal mining activities in Baddi. The police action included confiscating mining equipment, such as a dumper and a poclain machine, and imposing a fine of Rs 75,000. Earlier in September, the MLA had filed a privilege motion against SP Afroz in the Assembly. But who is Ilma Afroz? What was her rank in the UPSC examination? Read her inspiring story below.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh’s Kundarki town located in the Moradabad district, Ilma Afroz cracked the Union Public Service Commission-Civil Services (Main) exam in 2017. She joined the IPS in 2018. Speaking of her UPSC journey, she secured an All India Rank(AIR) 217.

Ilma Afroz had a challenging childhood, losing her father to cancer at the young age of 14. Later, she studied philosophy at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. She earned a scholarship to attend the University of Oxford in England.
