It is a dream for many Indians, to become an IAS officer. Many students prepare for it for several years and sacrifice their life to get a dream job. However there are also exceptional officers like Dr. Tanu Jain, who served as an IAS officer for a few years and later on resigned to choose a different path.
Dr. Tanu Jain, is from the Sadar area of Delhi. She was a bright student in academics from an early age. She attended Cambridge School and did a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Subharti Medical College. It is difficult for many people to become a Doctor & that’s also a dream for many people. But Tanu Jain was unique among all over here, while pursuing her dental studies, she thought to serve the society on a larger scale, so she began preparing for the prestigious UPSC exam.
Dr. Tanu cleared the prelims in just two months on her first attempt, but she couldn’t clear the mains. She kept on preparing for the exams, in her third attempt in 2014, she secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 648. She joined the 2015 IAS batch, to start a new chapter in her life.
Dr. Jain’sserved the society an IAS officer for seven years, during which she held numerous significant positions. She was proactive in governance and effectively implemented government policies for which she gained widespread appreciation. Throughout her service, she focused on healthcare reforms, educational initiatives, and rural development projects and served different communities in the society.
Despite her successful career and the respect she received as an IAS officer, Dr. Jain, she started feeling to get more engaged directly with the society. After seven years of dedicated service, leaving behind her dream job, she made the bold decision to resign from the IAS. Dr. Jain was motivated by a higher purpose, which gave her more confidence to take this decesion.
After the resignation, Dr. Tanu Jain dedicated herself to serving society through various social initiatives, motivational speaking, and writing. She became a mentor for UPSC aspirants and helped many UPSC aspirants from her own experiences and guided them in their preparation. Her many videos went viral on various social media platforms and students started admiring her and following her in their personal life. Today, she has a following of over 840k on Instagram, where she shares insights and inspires many.
Reflecting on her career change, Dr. Jain said , “While my job in civil services was fulfilling, after working diligently for seven and a half years, I recognized the challenges in UPSC preparation. Having personally faced the struggles of exam preparation, I understand the difficulties aspirants face. Life offers opportunities for growth, and with my husband also in civil service, I felt empowered to take the risk and start a new chapter in my life.”
