Swati Mohan Rathod, the daughter of a vegetable vendor from Solapur, Maharashtra, grew up in modest circumstances. With three sisters and a brother, her family faced significant financial challenges and adversities. However, these obstacles did not deter Rathod from pursuing her ambitions and dreams.

In a media interview, she mentioned that her mother mortgaged her gold to ensure that her studies would not be affected. After completing her secondary education at a government school in Mumbai, Rathod’s family found the city to be too expensive to live in. As a result, they moved 400 kilometers away to Solapur.

She then pursued a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geography at Walchand College in Solapur. During this period, she became interested in the UPSC exam. It took her five attempts to finally succeed. Speaking of her UPSC CSE results, Swati Mohan Rathod scored 815 in written marks and 138 in personality test. Overall, she scored 953 marks in total and secured All India Rank(AIR) 492.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks in the subjects set out in sub-section (A) of Section II. This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only; the marks obtained in the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit.
