Married at 11, Father by 20, Rajasthan Man Becomes A Doctor After Clearing NEET in 5th Attempt

Ramlal, a resident of Ghosunda in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, was married off at the age of just 11 while he was in Class 6. Despite this forced child marriage, he expressed a strong desire to continue his education to his family. However, his father was not supportive of his decision.

“Child marriage is a common practice in my village. I was married off when I was studying in Class 6. And while it felt exciting at that time because of all the attention and new clothes that I was getting, I realised while growing up that this practice needs to be stopped,” Ramlal was quoted as saying to IndianExpress.

Ramlal’s wife, who had only completed her studies up to Class 10, was inspired by his determination to become a doctor and decided to support his dream. Ramlal completed his schooling up to Class 10 at a government school in his village. Unsure whether to choose Arts, Commerce, or Science for further studies, he was guided by a teacher who recognized his strong grasp of Science and advised him to select Biology as his subject.

After finishing Class 10 with 74 percent, Ramlal opted for the Science stream and began preparing for the NEET UG exam. At the age of 18, his wife gave birth to a daughter when Ramlal was just 20. Six months after his daughter’s birth, Ramlal moved to Kota to begin preparing for the NEET exam.

Ramlal’s first attempt was in 2019, during his Class 12 exams, where he achieved 350 marks through self-study. In NEET 2020, he scored 320 marks, and in his third attempt for NEET 2021, he improved with a total of 362 marks. After his third attempt, Ramlal enrolled at ALLEN Kota, where teachers and experts provided him with the guidance and support needed to prepare for the medical entrance exam.

In his fourth attempt, NEET 2022, Ramlal scored 490 marks. Finally, in NEET 2023, he successfully the exam by scoring 632 out of 720 marks on his fifth attempt.
